    Re: Kenny Bell

Now we can all see how far Rivals drops him in the rankings since he picked LSU over Bama. He is currently rated 146.

Great news. I was a bit peaved at WAFB not mentioning it on their 6:00 sports. They were more interested in LSU practicing in the rain.

Looks like Rayville head coach Bo Barton took a good stab at Bama and Saban.

He was asked if essentially it came down to LSU and Bama, like most were reporting, and he said it was LSU and basically everyone else.

Rivals has Kenny Bell as a 4 star, and the #20 WR recruit in the nation.

Scout has Kenny Bell as a 4 star, and the #37 WR recruit in the nation.

On the state level, Rivals, Dandy Don, and the Times Picayune agreed that Kenny Bell was one of the top 10 overall recruits out of Louisiana (out of the 22 starting positions on offense and defense -- 11 each). Rivals, Dandy Don, and the Times Picayune also agreed that Kenny Bell was the #2 WR recruit from Louisiana behind Rueben Randle. Scout also agreed that Kenny Bell was the #2 WR recruit from Louisiana behind Randle (the only Louisiana WR recruits Scout lists as 4 star or higher are Bell and Randle). Rivals has Kenny Bell as the #6 best overall recruit from Louisiana, ahead of fellow LSU commits from Louisiana OL Chris Faulk (#8), RB Michael Ford (#10), OL Carneal Ainsworth (#13), and DT Josh Downs (#16).

On the national level, Rivals has Kenny Bell as the #146 best overall recruit in the nation, ahead of fellow LSU commits OL Stavion Lowe (#168), DE Mike Brockers (#175), OL Chris Faulk (#178), and RB Michael Ford (#211).

Kenny Bell had offers from schools including Rich Rodriguez's Michigan, Bo Pelini's Nebraska, Mark Richt's Georgia, Tommy Tuberville's Auburn, Nick Saban's Alabama, Petrino's Arkansas, etc. ... 17 or 18 reported offers in total

At LSU, Kenny will join fellow Rayville High School recruits such as WR Chris Tolliver (2008 recruiting class) and RB Richard Murphy (2006 recruiting class).

    Welcome, Kenny!!!

    Re: Kenny Bell

Scout lists him with a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash and ESPN/Scouts, Inc says he "very good speed," while Scout says he "has...a lot of speed."

Scout reports that his coach at Rayville High says that "he is the type of player that can take a hitch or screen and take it to the house every time. He definitely has that 'Wow' factor."

Also, as Parso said, their are different types of WRs that Crowton wants to further his master plan of offensive dominance.

Here is ESPN/Scouts Inc's scouting report on Kenny Bell:

Bell is similar to another wide receiver in this class James Jackson. He is lean and has adequate height and very good speed. Is pretty smooth and fluid and is effective both vertically and after the catch on underneath routes. He shows the ability to separate with solid foot quickness. He can build up his speed quickly after the catch. Very smooth as a route runner and shows the ability to consistently gain separation out of his breaks when he works at eating up cushion and setting up corners. Can stop and start quickly into and out of breaks and shows some suddenness to shake defenders down. He is a player that when matched-up down the field can go up and win. He is not real big or physical, but he is willing to go inside and catch in traffic. He has very good change-of-direction skills and shows some elusiveness after the catch. Bell would be very good as a slot in the spread where he can be utilized on crossing routes and certain run plays and work underneath zones. However, he has the speed and quickness to win outside and get deep too which gives a team many options with him. All of his qualities are good, but may not be elite. Isn't quite at the level of former teammate and ESPN 150 player Chris Tolliver from last year. Overall, Bell can run, has quick soft hands and will end up being a very sound route runner at the next level.

As for this James Jackson person that ESPN/Scouts Inc is comparing him to, that is an Ohio State WR commit who is also a Rivals 4 star (#28 WR in the nation) and a Scout 4 star (#33 WR in the nation). Scout has an article on him about how Ohio State thinks he might be the next version of Ohio State superstar Ted Ginn, Jr. (Scout reports that this James Jackson guy has "elite acceleration and speed. Can run past almost any defender and is dangerous in the open field. Is also an outstanding return man who can go the distance at any point in time"). That's the guy ESPN/Scouts Inc is comparing Kenny Bell to -- like Kenny Bell's coach said, "he is the type of player that can take a hitch or screen and take it to the house every time." As for ESPN/Scouts Inc saying that "not all of Kenny Bell's qualities are elite like Chris Tolliver," that just shows what a mega-super-beast Tolliver is expected to be. As for Bell, ESPN/Scouts Inc didn't say he didn't have elite qualities (they brag about many of his elite qualities), they were just saying that, although Bell has elite qualities--and that all of his qualities are good--not every single one of his qualities are as elite as those like a mega-super-beast like Chris Tolliver... just good enough to be compared to someone like James Jackson who might be the next Ted Ginn for Ohio State.
