Because three games isn't enough to say we have a solid starter yet. Lets see how he does when all the major programs, like Florida, start a gameplan revolving around his weaknesses. Potential? Yes. But so does Lee. No offense to Arkansas, GT and Ole Piss but they weren't exactly powerhouses like he'll face this year. He was shut out in the second half of Arkansas and Ole Piss, though it wasn't all his fault, especially as soon as you snap, you're seeing the sky. I agree, he has "it" factor but he has a long way to go before we can consider him a solid starter. Lets see how he does this year... People were going nuts over Lee after Auburn, then quickly turned against him. That is because they had unrealistic expectations for him and people are doing the same for JJ. Hes still young, hes going to make mistakes, but people already worship him as the next big thing this year after one game. Totally unfair for him, lets give him time. When he starts winning in clutch situations, against great teams, then you know you got your guy.
Thanks for the dose of reality, deuce. It's needed quite often. I am curious as to how long it will take for people to start calling for JJ's head?
Isn't it ironic that winning in the clutch is something Tebow did not do his first year as a starter? Didn't he drop 4 games, including one to lowly Michigan? I wonder if the fans railroaded him or if he got a pass because of his stats, despite losing the big games? Next year will be interesting, but I am already prepared for the mass calls for Shepard to take over the second JJ sneezes in the wrong direction.
They lost to Georgia and he put up over 30 points. He put up nearly 40 on Michigan. They had 24 against the vaunted LSU defense on the road. The Auburn game was disappointing from an offensive standpoint, however. He had very few turnovers last year and scored over 50 TDs. Had little to do with his QB play.
I did not say he didn't play well. His stats bear that out. I said he did not deliver the clutch victories.
Well I don't really mean to lay it on Tebow. I think it was the fault of the gator defense in most cases, much like our own defense last year. I was just postulating that in the absence of a defense, apparently your QB has to have a heisman season to avoid being cast down to the sodomites. Granted Lee was way short of that, but I disliked the way our fans handled him, most especially the booing. That really stuck in my craw, and I desperately do not want to see it happen to JJ.
When he makes mistakes (he will) – someone will want his head. Some might want the OC’s head as well. Also with Sheppard behind him, if he throws a pick-6, some will say they should have started Sheppard to begin with. Just the nature of the beast (college football fans). ldskule:
I'm 100% with you Dude. The kid (Lee) didn't deserve that type of treatment. All he did was answer the call and try his best; as a freshman QB facing SEC defenses. In addition to the booing there were all the calls for him to transfer- some on this forum. Notice that he didn't quit and did not transfer. I think he'll be a valued contributor to our success next season.
