I think this is because they are all living in the past. I'm not talking about the Gene Stallings past, but the Bear Bryant past, the 1960's-70's when Bama won the SEC almost every year and was in contention for a title almost every year. They just don't understand that they will never be able to stockpile that type of talent anymore. In addition, QB's matter more because you just can't run the wishbone every play. So when you start an inexperienced QB you don't have a great chance at a championship that year.
Not that I don't agree with you guys but LSU has its fair share of delusional fans too... Quite honestly, as far as message boards go, I don't think one fanbase is worse than the other IMO. Everything is the same. If they commit somewhere else, we didn't want him, thug, was dumb as a rock and didn't have grades, didn't think he was that good, got bought off. LSU posters are just as bad as gumps, in different ways, especially Negatigers. You have just as many LSU fans on the message board drinking that P&G kool-aid thinking LSU will be going undefeated. Already worshipping him as a god, just like Gumps worship Saban. All this despite still not knowing 100% we have a QB yet, all from JJ's performance in one game. No fanbase is worse than the other, not even if you go into their town and have a bad experience. Your experience doesn't equal everyone else's, a few people don't represent a entire fanbase, especially on message boards...
It doesn't work that way, CajunSensation. I'm a transplanted Louisiana native living in Montgomery. Whatever happens, they adapt their expectations and then take up from there. If they don't get Kendall Kelly, they didn't want him or need him anyway. Darrington Sentimore? Must me a flake that is not worthy of Bama. Richardson? If he switches, they didn't want him? Lose 5 games next year? Part of the process. That fanbase is TOTALLY different from LSU at this point. They have bought into the Saban mystique hook-line-and sinker. They weren't this way under Shula and were actually okay to deal with. Now, all news is good news and anything bad that happens means nothing. I think this will all take a few years to work out. 15 years of frustration on their part has led to the current situation. We just have to deal with it, I'm afraid. Fortunately, most of the Bama fans I know are fairly decent and reasonable. It is the internet message board and call-in show types that give Bama fans a bad name. LSU has them too, but we also have such a large percentage of Negatigers that it balances the delusional fans out. Bamanation doesn't have that right now.
How do you guys survive living out there? I'm fortunate because most of the fans down here are Da U. There are some UF fans, but not enough to get irritated by. I think MM is sickened by it just north of me, however.
I agree, BAMA Nation by percentages go in this "every fan base has the delusional type" debate, they win big in this department.. I have yet to met a living breathing real life Bama fan that wasn't just nuts about Saban and how NC are around the corner. Their confidence is unreal This past year, I was like dang, I didn't expect this... Now they have to find a QB...I believe they are setting themselves up for big dissappointment next year. I will enjoy it, they enjoyed ours
There are quite a few LSU fans in Birmingham. I've got several in my neighborhood, some moved here after Katrina. The worse thing is ALL the local sports radio is ala/aub talk. I only listen to one sports show and the rest of the time Sirius. I've been in Bham for 20 years except for a couple years in Mobile when setting up a new office. My job is based from here so I have no choice but its a decent place to live. Great schools, have a lake home just to the north west where the water is beautiful and clean and the beach is 4 hours away. New Orleans is a quick SW flight thats usually cheap so it isnt that hard to get back when I want to. The only thing now is I dont have any family to go back to. None of my family live in LA anymore so I just go back to see the few friends I've kept and visit where I grew up. I must admit that having TF is a blessing for us living out of state. Im not really into the message board scene but this place has been great for this LSU fan.
It's just a hunch. Our WR depth-chart is very deep, and we've continued to heavily recruit a bunch of other WRs. I wouldn't be surprised if that was turning off Bell a bit.
