Re: DeAngelo Benton - what ever happened to him?

Why was Benton unhappy with the situation? LSU was waiting on him to qualify and he didn't. LSU kept holding scholarships open for him. What did we do wrong?

It's fine. He's coming to LSU. :milesmic:

We have never heard anything about that situation happening with Benton. It may have happened, it certainly never came to light.

Oh gosh, this was really a minor. I didn't want it to be considered major.

Okay, you guys have all been kids before right? Did you ever go through a period of uncertainty where you weren't sure about a decision you made, or had to make? Hell, adults have similar issues.

It wasn't anything LSU did or didn't do. He, like most people, pretty much had some anxiety over things going on in his life. That's pretty normal.

When he said he wasn't sure about his decision, he had an opportunity. This was back in July or August. He didn't take the opportunity. If he wanted it, it would've been done.

Also, it's not lost on him that LSU has never wavered on the offer. He knows most recruits would've been shown the door long ago. But regardless of what LSU has done, it's still his right to make his own decision...homers be damned.

But IMO, he hasn't shown any disloyalty. He's shown he's human, so he's prone to human feelings. And until he or LSU decide differently, he's a Tiger.

We as fans have a tendency to make kids who've never played a down for our team into heroes. The flipside of that is, we can demonize a kid who doesn't do what we as fans want them to do. But sit back and think about it, who really has the problem, the recruit or us?

Oh gosh. You get in your own way sometimes when it comes to thinking things through. I do see TheDude's point though. Yours not so much...

Have you stopped at all to think that maybe the lack of WV receivers in the NFL have to do with it being fricking WV, and not necessarily because of the coach. I mean, what 17 or 18 year old kid is anxious to get to WV?

If given a chance, Michigan will be just fine. Their name alone attracts big time talent. And Coach Rod practically invented an offense. It was just a matter of time before he got to a place where he could attract the big time talent to play in his offense. Give the guy a chance. He's not even ten years in as a major college head coach.

Why do you think Michigan was on Rueben's list for so long? And before anyone takes that statement and runs with it, RUEBEN IS NOT GOING TO MICHIGAN.

:geaux: The Dude summed it up nicely right here. After LSU has "shown him the love" for the last two years and no doubt held a spot for him for that long as well, it would be a slap in the face if he went some where else. Would be a heck of way to say "thanks" to the school that has stood by, engouraged and supported you for two years. :LSU231:

I agree with that as well...and said as much when back in the summer when this incident happened.

I just don't agree with the assessment by issy that he'll fail if he goes elsewhere.

    Off topic:
Will you get upset if I slap your son in the back of the head today? Not hard enough to leave a mark, but hard enough so he knows he got slapped? LOL!

You're totally off base with your assessment and logic.

We'll just leave it at that.

Okie doke. But you're the one saying the kid's going to fail if he had chosen to go elsewhere. What's your logic and assessment based on?

Everywhere Rodriguez has coached, they've improved, and there is no assessment or logic I can use to dispute that. Even before he came to Tulane when he was coaching at some little podunk state school in West Virginia, they got better. Check his background. Why should Michigan be any different?
