Ya, I edited my post within like 15 seconds to replace the negative-angle "Iowa usually sucks" with the positive angle "Makes Iowa look good." (see above). You're quick on top of the posts here today. Iowa did beat us in 2004 and they do have a pretty awesome team this year with All-American LB Pat Angerer, All-American OL Bryan Bulaga, DB Tyler Sash (probably an All-American on somebody's list... was 3rd Team AA on the AP list), TE Tony Moeaki, DL Adrian Clayborn, DB Amari Spievey, OL Kyle Calloway, etc. Iowa is pretty loaded. GT has some players too, though.
nope. its discussing both. "Only in six of the past 10 years have the Nittany Lions managed to win even one game against a ranked team." as i posted earlier, lsu has done so each of the last 15 yrs. but as far as nonconf ranked foes 2009 0-0 2008 1-0 #14 GT 38-3 2007 2-0 #9 VT 48-7, #1 OhioSt 38-24 (Damn, beat 7 ranked that year) 2006 1-0 #11 ND 41-14 2005 2-0 #15 AzSt 35-31, #9 Miami 40-3 2004 0-1 #11 Iowa 25-30 :bncry: 2003 1-0 #3 OU 21-14 2002 0-2 #16 VT 26-8, #9 Tx 20-35 2001 1-0 #7 Ill 47-34 2000 1-0 #15 GT 28-14 total 9-3 vs ranked non conf oppts (avg ranking = 10)
I was just thinking along the lines of Penn State 2009 -- 10-2 2008 -- 11-2 (Big Ten Champions) -- lost Rose Bowl to USC 2007 -- 9-4 -- Won bowl game over 9-3 Tennessee 2006 -- 9-4 -- Won bowl game over 7-5 Texas aTm 2005 -- 11-1 (Big Ten Champions) -- Won Orange Bowl over FSU Iowa 2009 -- 10-2 2008 -- 9-4 -- won bowl game over 7-6 South Carolina 2007 -- 6-6 -- no bowl game 2006 -- 6-7 -- lost bowl game 2005 -- 7-5 -- lost bowl game Between the two, who would you say has been a much better program recently?
I guess if you want to start in 2005... after we finished 8th in the country in 2002, 2003 and 2004... that's your prerogative... after all, it is your chosen timeframe. That would be like me doing this: LSU 2009......... 9-3, 5-3 in conference 2008......... 8-5, 3-5 in conference There, now we can both feel better.opcorn:
And even doing that, still makes Iowa look weak. Wouldn't you have liked to be 9-3 and 8-5 in the SEC instead of doing this in the Big Ten: 2007 -- 6-6 -- no bowl game 2006 -- 6-7 -- lost bowl game 2005 -- 7-5 -- lost bowl game
Not sure what your point is. I never said Iowa had a better program than PSU or LSU, for that matter. PSU does have a great program. I'm talking about this year... and this year they are not very good, given their performance in their bigger games. Had they played Wisconsin, they wouldn't have even made this bowl.
The score going into the fourth quarter was PSU 10 Iowa 5. So there was NO chance of PSU winning? That's hubris my Hawkeye friend. Enjoy your record against PSU, your fine program and coach. The fact that you're here posting rather than posting about your own upcoming bowl game makes you come off as rather insecure. My apologies for upsetting you with the mere suggestion that Penn State could have won the game against your Hawkeyes. I hope you feel better now.
A tried and true battle that has turned into 2 of the National Champions during that time, with a couple of other appearances by OU. UT has the opportunity to add to that this year. The PSU/Iowa matchup hasn't been for the same stakes as the UT/OU matchup. Although a good comparison, not quite the same thing. Not saying PSU isn't good, because they are, I'm just not buying into your hype of them. It will be a tough game on both sides.
