"I’m not saying a victory over LSU in Friday’s Capital One Bowl game would be Penn State’s biggest win over the past ... 10 years -- but it would be in the top five. Only in six of the past 10 years have the Nittany Lions managed to win even one game against a ranked team." really?, LSU has for every year since 95 (and most seasons there were multiple) "And against those seven [non conf ranked opponents in the decade], Penn State did not fare very well: 0-2 vs. Southern California, 0-1 vs. Miami, 0-1 vs. Notre Dame, 1-1 vs. Nebraska and 1-0 vs. Tennessee. That’s a 2-5 mark. Ugh." State College, PA - Penn State Football: Why PSU Must Beat LSU
In the last four years, Penn State has won 40 games, won two Big Ten titles...Over that span, only USC, Texas, Boise State, Ohio State, Florida, West Virginia, and LSU have better winning percentages. They came within a last-second field goal of playing for the national title last year.
University of Georgia win doesn't count. The article you are citing is discussing NON CONFERENCE wins against ranked opponents. So a fair comparison would be how many wins LSU has over non SEC teams in the past decade.
Ya GA was #18 when we played them. They were the only ranked team we beat this year. Last year we beat #14 GT and #10 Auburn (who finished 5-7). Penn State beat no ranked teams this year. They beat two ranked teams last year: #17 Michigan State (45-14) and #9 Ohio State (13-6). They also beat Wisconsin 48-7, who was ranked in the Top 10 for 3 weeks, and Oregon State 45-14, who finished #18.
You are correct, but if I'm figuring this out right we are 9-3 against OOC ranked opponents since 2000 including bowls. John you can correct me if I am wrong.
Among general football fans, a lot of people have been saying LSU is vastly overrated. It's pizzes me off to hear that, so it's not surprising that Penn State fans feel the same way when people tell them that. Personally, I think Penn State is a top-tier powerhouse just like LSU... the teams I think are overrated are teams like Miami.
