Less and less. The AP made itself irrelevant when it did that in 2003 and then took itself out of the BCS formula. Being number one on a poll all season is being number one on a poll. Being number one on a final season poll is meaningless when there is a national championship game being played. Poll #1 or not, you can't be a National Champion unless you win the national championship game. There is only one crystal football and the 2003 footballl lives in Baton Rouge. And it is not split.
And I, sir, was just picking with you. I hope you knew I was. Curious statement though about your definition of a loser. I know some people who don't have a prison record that I consider losers.
We were dam lucky the coaches were bound by agreement. They may not have picked us either. Never make me believe were WE NOT National Champs but that's neither here nor there. Funny Miles accepted the AP Championship for 2007 as well as the BCS one. Sure you can. In 1926 there was a three-way tie between Navy, Alabama and Stanford. You think 3 teams played in ONE game amigo? There have always been controversies. The very first season of college football's existence pollsters split the national title between Rutgers and Princeton. This, even though Rutgers beat Princeton earlier that year. In some years up to six different teams claimed some kind of title. There have been many a National Champion named in any given season. If you choose to recognize solely the BCS then so be it. The BCS era has been filled with controversy as well. If you choose to only recognize IT then so be it but you need to get that burr outcha azz and move on.
I Code: opcorn:opcorn:opcorn:opcorn:opcorn: You, sir , are a brave man. I admire your moxy. Red will come out swinging. This is gonna be fun. If anyone can hold their on , it's you. Good luck. :thumb:
Miles doesn't care about stats--only wins. Because that's all that matters. For years now, we've had the same naysayers predict that highly skilled recruits--specifically skill position players--would eventually not come here because the "stats weren't good enough". And all Miles has continued to do is bring in top 10 recruiting class after top 10 recruiting class.....and win. :miles: Who really gives a crap about stats when we're winning 40-27, 49-3, 47-21 and our "close game score" STILL winning by 13???
AP is the media national championship. ESPN, ABC, SI, etc. will always be looking to prop up the legitimacy of the AP at every turn since they vote in it. This sort of behavior should surprise no one. As for people at other schools? Well I can't say for sure, but then I don't have faith in most people to look past what they see ESPN saying on TV anyway.
You would expect the ap to give it to one of their favorites. You would know in 2003 they would give it to a pus-12 team. They would do the same thing given a chance.
