I got exposed to hockey 30 years ago when I arrived in Colorado. It's a difficult game to grasp at first, but if you stick with it, get an understanding of the basics, e.g., offsides, icing, power plays, etc., it's a beautifule game to watch. More so in person, particularly if you are seated up high rather than TV.

That Div-1 Hockey team at Univ Alabama-Huntsville is made up of 20 Canadians and 7 Americans (2 from Ohio, and one each from Georgia, Texas, Calfornia, Michigan, Pennslyvania).

Do you know how much of a drain on resources that would be? They would have to fund and maintain a rink, all that equipment, trainers, etc. Plus it would never make any money. We can't even get people to go to the basketball games. Hockey would be a novelty for one season then no one would ever go.

Where would you get players? It's not like Louisiana is brimming with ice hockey talent. You'd have to go up north to find kids and why would any decent player move away from home, where the good schools are, to come to LSU and play for a bad team that no one watches?

I would not be fan of a Div 1 team because of the drain it will be. But, I did enjoy it when Baton Rouge had a team. I think I am going to catch the club play this Friday night when they play Florida State. I love beating Florida State any time any where including a freezing ice rink.

I am going to buy a t-shirt or two to help support them because they put on the Purple and Gold and skate for .

I will try to remember to take my Camera a snap a few pictures.

So, then, no Bama boys on the team, right?

And I suspect there wouldn't be any Louisiana boys (or girls) on an LSU hockey team.

Hockey just isn't a Southern sport, Sport!

Damn!...buy a lottery ticket because Red and I totally agree! :hihi:

In addition to #2, Title 9 restrictions could result in us eliminating another men's team instead of adding a women's team. I can't think of a team I would want to replace.

Northern teams have already messed up the baseball season because it's too cold for the whiners. They should man up and start playing hockey outdoors in real weather and without a Zamboni machine to make the ice nice and smooth for their delicate rears.

    Short answer...NO

Well financially, it wouldn't make sense. However, hockey is a pretty cool sport. It's more fun to watch than soccer, but mainly because of the physical contact. Other than that... let's focus on getting people out to support the basketball teams.

Interestingly, Penn State doesn't even have an NCAA hockey team. They just have a club team, like LSU.

It depends on how the fans would support the team, and how well LSU could recruit based on location. You usually don't expect to see a hockey team in Louisiana, but if Tampa Bay can win a Stanley Cup, it could happen.

    Florida has a hockey team.
