I don't believe that's true. If it were, you wouldn't see a coach giving a high-five, as just one example. There a rule about assisting a teammate, but a touch, high-five, or pat on the ass? If you look it up you'll undoubtedly find some phrase like physical assist a player. IE: If you recall, there was a softball player that was hurt and couldn't make it around the bases a few years ago. But, the opposing team was allowed to pick her up and carry her around the bases.
Now that I can live with because technically she was still "in play" since she hadn't touched the plate yet. The whole new ball thing is just bullshit.
"But, the opposing team was allowed to pick her up and carry her around the bases".... ugh, girly bullshit, kinda sickening if you ask me . (from a comment) At least with the NCAA this is a point of emphasis this year. Base coach is no problem. Player from dugout is an issue. Players must wait in foul territory for player to reach home plate 12.2.16 When, after hitting an out-of-the-park home run, providing her team previously was warned under Rule 9.6.3, a member of the offensive team enters fair territory to congratulate the batter before she touches home plate. Terry, you're right,.. 1st, the team would have to be warned prior to the incident,.. 2nd the celebration/touching was in foul territory.
@GiantDuckFan I came across this a month or so ago in an argument about whether the batter was out if they touched the plate. It just happened to stick in my mind. It's an interesting read on the myths of softball rules. http://www.softballumps.com/Documents/Softball Myths.pdf 15. A runner is out if she slaps hands or high-fives other players, after a homerun is hit over the fence. A runner is only out if a player (who is not a runner) or coach physically assists a player in running the bases. As you can imagine, a high-five could not be judged as physically assisting. See ASA 8-8-E
shane, this is slow developing but watch it and you'lol get something from it that you will never forget. http://faithit.com/softball-player-torn-acl-opposing-team-rounds-bases/
That's the play I was talking about earlier. Pretty freakin' cool, if you ask me. Thanks for finding this, tiga. She's in the middle--hardly a sow.
