You mean, worse than a World Series MVP? How's that bad? How about the $8.75 Mill that Seattle paid Weaver this year. OOPS! At least next year they can pretend it didn't happen...
If Eck were six feet tall, nobody would pay any attention to him. But since he's 5'5", albino and "scrappy" everyone loves to ignore that he is a below-average SS. Including managers and GMs.
Speaking of Seattle, they may have some buyer's remorse over getting fleeced on the Adrian Beltre deal. Another of the worst deals of all time are two Astros relievers. Dan "The Missile" Miceli a few years ago may be the most wretched player in the history of the league. His heir apparent has been Trevor Miller, who I'm still not sure has gotten anyone out this year. Somehow both of these guys were indeed paid for their futility.
edit: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=16493 here's the real reason to hate eckstein. when he won that yellow corvette for winning WS MVP he had to give it away because he couldnt drive a stick. of course the fact he's a florida gator just adds to that.
Not surprised Simmons has that opinion -- and he's completely right. I pretty much quit reading his chats, as they invariably focus on TV shows that I don't watch, too much Yankee hate, and I don't consistently have 'net perusing time like I did before. Eckstein is a total d-bag. He's one of the only players in all of sports that my wife actively hates. Like if she sees him on TV, the complaining cranks up automatically. In fact, I can't think of another player that gets her more ticked off. MAYBE Michael Barrett, but that's probably more because I hate that guy.
The Kevin Brown deal a few years back was pretty bad. And so has pretty much any contract the Red Sox have given to a shortstop since Orlando Cabrerra left town.
