Do not dare say Flynn is not perfect. Ryan Perrilloux caused him to throw those Ints. Flynn is perfect!
I'm more worried about having to start a RS freshman next year because our future star junior QB can't stay away from Xavier Carter et. al. and instead get's his arse in a sling - again. As long as Flynn's TD to Int ratio stays where it is or gets better, I'm not losing sleep. Let's all say a little prayer that Ryan Perrilloux gives himself a chance to live up to all the hype.
i think MF has done a pretty damn good job for a guy who warmed benches and held balls for colt david for so long. he's not a perfect man on a perfect team in a perfect season in a perfect game. shinizzle happens.
Ok, that's being a little too defensive on the matter. Are you his father? The 3 interceptions vs Bama were just horrible decisions on his part to let go of the ball, trying to do too much, instead of throwing it away. That's not his game. His thing is to be a game manager, ala Matt Mauck.
OK, I gotta defend the guy on this one. 1 of his picks vs. Bama was a horrible decision. The deep ball was off target a little (not a bad decision), and Byrd should have made a play at the ball instead of just pulling up. The one where the linebacker leaped up with one hand to snag it was an amazing play by an LB. 9 outta 10 times, that ball gets past the defender on that one. The 3rd one, well that DB was open, and he hit him in the chest.:hihi:
My point was that this year was about over. While I hope that he does, it is probably unrealistic to expect Flynn to improve much more as a college quarterback.
I certainly can't argue with you on the Bama picks because of my beer consumption since then. And I honestly don't remember the specific situation. But I finally saw the first half of the LA Tech game last night. I cringed when I saw those picks for the first time and thought of this thread. Those two picks were just awful decisions in my opinion. Agreed???
Flynn is who he is, a game manager, nothing that much more. The injury hurt his stats in the middle part of this season (see Kentucky game). Not having Doucet hurt him even more. You negate those 2 things and you're looking at an undefeated LSU team which probably would not have had a scare from anyone except Florida. And you're probably looking at Flynn with a 150+ QB efficiency rating instead of the low 120s. Then we would all be hailing how tremendous a QB he is. He still is good, just not great.
That would be my description of MF too, VERY GOOD, SOLID qb but not that "Next level" type- college-wise. His leadership is a HUGE plus too, imo. I think he's done us proud and can't complain but I thought he'd be even better than he has- course, like you said, he lost his primary receiver and the injury set him back. He's a classy young man though, and I'm thankful he was the team-oriented person he's been and waited. I believe his time on the team leading up to this year served us well, his experience outside the game(s)- watching film, practicing, learning to read defenses, just being on the sideline during big games, etc.
