its crazy to compare him to charles alexander or any other proven back in the sec. i suppose its fun to do but still ridiculous to assume he could sustain a coked up life and produce for more than a few games. he had zero chance to succeed long term.

he started 3 games in the sec. if justin vincent had never played another down after his freshman season, we would have said he could have been the first 3 time heisman winner.

    same type deal.

next thing you'll hear is he could run over the sec with only one shoe on.

I'll stick to the original topic that TH is the fastest player ever. No one said he was the best. We could have the longest discussion ever on this site trying to agree on the best football player ever. TH is extemely fast and very small by NFL standards. If I'm advising him on his future I would tell him to compete in the Olympic games and then try his luck in the NFL. I'm sure some teams would like him as a return man.

    long response, sorry

i wanted red to compare physical abilities not production on the field. whether or not collins could have succeeded longterm is not relevant.

how is it crazy to compare collins' speed, size and strength to that of alexander?

the main reason for me to doubt collins' physical abilities is because that lsu team had a really good line. but collins averaged over 2 more yd/carry than faulk and mealey (granted will less attempts)

RUSHING GP Att Gain Loss Net Avg TD Long Avg/G
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Kevin Faulk 9 205 1187 43 1144 5.6 15 53 127.1
    Rondell Mealey 11 112 689 25 664 5.9 7 44 60.4
    Cecil Collins 4 72 622 26 596 8.3 3 69 149.0

of his 4 games, two dont count---akron and vandy (3 carries because of injury). the other two were--

at MissSt (22 for 172) great performance against a decent team (7-4)
Auburn (27 for 232) historic performance against a great team (10-3)

vincent had one game (a big one) with more that the 172 cecil had at MSU and never had more than the 232 cecil had against Auburn (is that the 2nd most ever after alley against OM?)

vincent had plenty of blah games. cecil never did. sure, cecil could have turned out to be a flash in the pan like vincent had cecil not gotten injured, but i dont think so.

We'll never know if he had the endurance to carry the ball 30 times a game for a season. The Diesel was not as big or as fast as Alexander the Great and certainly can't boast of a 1,600-yard season or being a Heisman finalist . . . but he did have an impressive combination of strength and agility that was fun to watch.
