can this stay in the den for just a couple hours? It can be deleted after. I am having to wright a paper for my anthropology class i am taking here. It has to do with London being a Multi-Cultural World City. Anyone studied this or something similar and want to offer a little help?
check this site, gives heads up on London's multi-cultural composition: Ethnicity profiles: London :tigereye:
Just to mess with you a bit, shouldn't you write a paper? You might get a better grade that way. As far as London being multicultural, I suggest that you experiences there would do more for you than asking any of us. What have you experienced that makes London seem multicultural? Does the assumed culture of the city allow for parity and individualism. What about the ethnic neighborhoods in the city? Is it safe enough for you to take a stroll through them and learn something more about the city outside of the tourist attractions?
I read a while back that the most popular dish in London was curry, from the Indian immigrants. You can tell a lot about the culture from the food that is served, look at New Orleans. An avenue to explore. There are some terrorist cells and attacks, and tension with the Muslim population. You may search on british immigration laws, maybe even those that were proposed and then defeated but I think there is some interesting legal issues going on over there. As a former super power and colonial one at that, folks from the former colonies have had attachments to england rather than the US, and many have ended up in London, like many from Africa. Interesting angle. google is your friend.
You should ask Deceks. I think he's pretty familiar with London if my memory serves me correctly. Like VERY familiar.
World City, I would think so. Much of it has to do with the fact that England was a world imperial power for so many years. England brought back spoils and customs from the areas that it conquered. We stayed near a Turkish area by Hyde Park, and had Tony Blair as a neighbor. The biggest concern we heard along race lines was of the large Muslim congregation that is developing in the area that will host the Olympics in 2012. http://www.christiantoday.com/article/christian.councillor.concerned.over.olympic.mosque.terrorist.links/21415.htm Stockwell is a Portuguese area of London that offered a unique environment, some seem to think it is a bit rough, but did not have that feeling myself. Gerrard St. is the home to China town, the East End is the heaviest in immigrants, but we did not spend much time there. Overall you have a chance to to interact with many different folk. I also think that the majority of the folk adopt very British ways and present that as an initial profile. Very true of the more educated people, but the general immigrant populous took on a Cockney attitude. What is interesting in those area where this group gathers is the use of Jafaican as the new Multicultural London English. You could study neighborhood after neighborhood and spend a lifetime learning of the transitions. Great place.
I think that, in London, they speak English....While, here, we murder it!!! Am I wright ? (just kidding bro, good luck on the paper!)
