Not sure where to put this, so move the thread accordingly.

I've had a video of Shep's first TD up on YouTube for almost a year now. Today I get a copyright complaint from something called "XOS Digital" claiming to hold the copyright. Curious as to how this could be considering it was an ESPN broadcast snippet, I hit Google and found out that they are affiliated with none other than the SEC Digital Network. This would be the same SEC who swore up and down they wouldn't try to gouge fans to access online video.

So if you have any LSU or SEC broadcasts posted on your accounts, be warned that the SEC's legal goons may shut you down.

Isn't the SEC digital network charging people this year for video playback?

Not sure, but I know they wanted to do that when it launched, but the PR outcry forced them to back down. I guess they figure enough time has gone by and now they can cash in.

I think that may fall into the same group as "Who Dat" and "Tigers" can't be copy written
either nor "Fighting Tigers" (which was a confederate army troop nickname).

The issue there isn't copyright, but trademark. The issue the NFL took with "Who Dat" wasn't the historical use, but how its use today is almost exclusively associated with the Saints and the NFL, which is why the NFL wanted a piece of the merchandise action. Politics and bad PR are the only reason they backed off; had they decided to pursue the matter in court they would've won handily. Same applies to Ma and Pa T-shirt maker who wants to make "Geaux Tigers" merch but not give a cut to LSU.

This does remind me of who dat.

Remember when Vitter said he was going to produce T-shirts with a fleur de lis likeness and "who dat" on them...daring the NFL to sue a sitting senator...

well nothing ever came of that because, according to the New Orleans Levee publication...

the NFL backed off and sent Vitter a memo admitting that he was right...BUT...if Vitter produced those T-shirts, the NFL was going to produce their own T-shirts with Vitter's likeness on them along with the phrase "Ho Dat" on them and make them widely available.

Vitter capitulated and immediately shut up !! :hihi:
