JJ - well he has been the starter over JL for the last 2 years and has yet been able to run the new and improved system that Krag and Stud have put in - no fight and I am not sure if JL would have seen the any PT yet JL - has done a great job with what he has had to deal with - love how he is protecting the ball and being very smart with each pass - now that he has the ball I do not see CLM taking it from him Mett- from what I have seen he could be the Monster in the closet ! The best QB on the team but you can't let him jump 2 senior QBs unless they can't get it done I expect JL to the be starter JJ to be 2nd QB in if needed Mett waiting on 2012 just my take and I expect to see JJ play against tucky
JJ is a better runner but with him our fantastic receivers are pretty much a non factor. With JL he can't run but he can hit our receivers which opens up the run game for our fantastic RB's that he can hand it off to. With that, it's not even close which one is the starter. JJ is lacking in leadership too.
Pretty much the best analysis I have seen of the three and of our situation at LSU right now. I too, expect Lee to continue as our starter. I do expect JJ to receive reps. I do not think he will be a distraction if he receives reps. Best and truest statement is that Mett is the monster in the closet. Mettenberger is the best QB that I have seen on LSU's roster. JL deserves his opportunity and he is not squandering it, but, our best QB, and one that may prove his worth still this season, is Mett, who is riding the pine.
Mett = the most talented and the only technically sound QB Lee = tons of experience, been through it all, quite a game manager that can break your back with the pass now (see 3rd and 1 play vs WVU) JJ = we have no idea, we'll see if he improved any, but from a mental standpoint as well as mechanics he was a disaster
In your imagination. he has practically no experience, none facing SEC defenses. All we KNOW is that Mettenberger has great potential. he has a lot of rookie mistakes in front of him. True, but he also has a history of never getting through a season without major errors. We know more about Jefferson that any quarterback we've got. He has more time in the game, more yardage, a better passing percentage, and an actual running game. Here is the deal. LSU has the best quarterback depth in the SEC, it has the widest variety of quarterbacking styles to use against SEC defenses, and it has the most options available to an offensive coordinator. This team has been through starter suspensions, NCAA sanctions, and last-minute OC changes and is not easily distracted. We couldn't be in better shape for a championship run. Anyone who thinks that Jefferson's return is a negative, just isn't thinking this through.
I've seen a lot of rookie quarterbacks . . . Tommy Hodson, Herb Tyler, Jarrett Lee, etc. They make a lot of rookie mistakes . . . even Tebow did. I suspect Mettenberger is not Superboy and will make some, too.
Jefferson was 92nd ranked QB in the nation last year in QB rating. What I meant by we have no idea is we don't know how improved he will be in reading defenses and better mechanics since his work with Krag. If he didn't improve, this kid is awful and will be a detriment to this team, not a plus as you put it. If he improved greatly like Lee did, then we're in great shape and we certainly do have the best depth in the SEC. For you to just ordain JJ as a great backup to Lee is foolish, especially since you're the one questioning my love for Mett "prematurely".
And he took his team to an 11-2, TOP-10 season. And he has passed for more yards with a higher percentage of completions and a better TD to interception ratio than Lee. But they are actually quite close as passers. Lee is steady, Jefferson has legs, Mettenberger has an arm. We could have worse problems than the best of all worlds. I think we will find out real soon.I'd like to see what he's got under Kragthorp. They say he was tearing them up at the Manning Academy and those guys are no friends of LSU. At his worse he is better than two-thirds of the quarterbacks in the league. If he's awful he'll drop to number 3. But he won't begin there, he's earned his stripes. You'll know in a few weeks. Well boy, I'm thinking like Les and you're thinking like . . . less.
