i read an article with an interview from Ronnie Lott talking about that game. He said that the night before the game USC went to a movie and when they came out there were thousands of LSU fans between the doors and the busses chanting tigerbait. He admitted they were intimidated and had never seen anything like that. And that Tiger stadium that night was the loudest stadium he had ever seen. Pro or college. He said he will never forget that game as long as he lives. He comes by to see my wifes boss now and then and i have asked her to ask him about it next time he does.
It happen 2011 and it happened in Mett's last season. Most of the people leaving wouldn't know an exciting football game if they saw it. I watched fans pour out of the stadium in the 4th quarter of a good game against Tennessee with the score tied, I was stunned. It has nothing to do with football, as most of them aren't there to watch football anyway. By the 4th they have seen and been seen, time to go party. They can ask about the final score on Sunday.
Sports Illustrated wrote about that game the next week. Several USC players were quoted that after playing in Tiger Stadium, Notre Dame would be child's play.
I don't doubt that one bit. I was just referencing the FU game because it sounded loud through the TV and there didn't seem to be thousands of premium, empty seats. Maybe there were only hundreds for that game.
I was at that game. I remember standing outside the student entrance with my date. As they were starting to open the gate, the crowd started pushing forward. We were about 5 or 10 feet from the gate when my date said "look at my feet". We were wedged so tightly, she had picked her feet up and wasn't falling. Crazy. I remember after the game, no one left for a good while. Standing ovation for what seemed like forever. We were so outmatched that day, but the Tigers just wanted it more. They left EVERYTHING on the field that day. One of the best games I have ever been to at TS. I agree, it was definitely a religious experience.
I was there too on the 25 yd line and saw the Pack 12 refs steal the game from us. No one nowhere no how will anyone ever convince me otherwise
I'm pretty sure that outside the theater it was hundreds. It was in the thousands when USC showed up the night before for the walk-through. The police escort that night was different for them too. Initially they weren't let off the bus. Meh....Brad Budde said it made Notre Dame look like Romper Room. I believe that quote was on a banner inside the LSU Trophy Hall or whatever it is y'all have. For starters, it was the Pac 10 at that time and only 1-year in at that. In 1978 it was still the Pac 8. I would love to see the reference about where the officiating crew was from. Exactly where and how was the game stolen? Please don't tell me the facemask penalty.
I'm not a fan of those platitudes. Way too much subjectivity. I will say that LSU was underrated that year IMO. Coming in to that game y'all were 2-0 with wins over Colorado and Rice by a combined score of 91-3. There were at least 6 NFL'ers on that team. McClendon was an awesome coach. Still, over the course of that season, LSU had 7 home games and just 3 on the road. USC played 6 on the road including @ T-Tech, @Or St, @ LSU, @ #9 Notre Dame, @ kal, and @#15 Washington. And White still managed to put up 190 yards although the dumbass did fumble late in the game and almost cost us the win. Alabama ended up the #1 team even though we beat an undefeated Ohio St in the Rose Bowl but ended up in a tie with Stanford.
I've told this story 1000 times so forgive me. I'm sitting with my brother watching the game about middle of third quarter I tell my brother , 'That number 42 for USC is pretty good. Who is he? ' My brother takes program looks up name. He replies, 'Lott, Ronnie Lott.' Yeah that was nice.
