27 teams are out of the bowl race, 14 teams needs 1 more win to go to a bowl and we only have about 48 eligible.
Thats 90 teams, what do the other 30 need to get to the magic 6 number? There was a discusion about this posibility on ESPN in the off season. I don't know if this has ever happened, but it would be interesting to see how they choose any open spots left should there not be enough qualifiers.
By my count for the 35 bowls listed at espn, then looking at the different conference standings, there's 54 teams with 6 plus wins and another 16 with five wins... so as long as all the 5 win teams win one more, the bowls look ok. sadly enough!!
