I didn't say it would happen next week, or next year, or the next decade, or even the next generation...but...sooner or later the power will shift just as it has throughout history. But I think you are right….I think China has a LONG way to go before they will be a contender.
Not to start an Western civilization vs Eastern civilization discussion here but just want to point out that if Greece during the Hellenistic period (its zenith) had been geographically next to China we might not have been taught Greece was that periods superpower.
this British empire thing is absurd hyperbole. if you want to make the point that we spend too much, go ahead, we do. but lets not go overboard and lose credibility.
For the totality of his rule; none. My point was that after the consolidation of the Greek states and the defeat of Persia there were no other organized countries to conquor; AND there were no other threats to Greece. Around this same period China was organized into its first dynastys. They had epanded thru conquest to Korea, Vietnam, and others. So they were large and organized. If Greece and China were neighbors which one would have been dominant? Like I said, I wasn't looking to start a East vs West culture discussion. We frequently talk as if the world has always been only the Mediteranian, Europe, and the US, and it isn't. The Han dynesty during the same time period (roughly) as Hellenistic period is cultural equivalent (roughly) for China to the Hellenistic. I was only pointing out something I find interesting not a "Greece vs China" which is best discussion.
Western Civilization has dominated the planet for two millennia. Many do tend to put Chinese civilization into the ancient history category.
My point was that the British were the worlds superpower at one time. We are the worlds superpower now. The Brits lost that superpower status because of economic problems that made it impossible to remain a superpower. Will America lose it's superpower status because of the same reasons?
