It's a good thing for Boston that they didn't have a series left with the Yankees. The Yankees took 5 of 6 games after the All-Star Game, won 9 out of the last 12 and took the overall series 10-9. With the Yankees 14.5 games out of 1st place in the division and 8.5 out of the wild card at the end of May, they made a heck of a run just to get in the playoffs for the 13th year in a row.
They definitely deserve a lot of credit for their run. Boston played close to .600 ball down the stretch, and the Yanks still closed the gap.
Thats one of the funny things to me. Obviously the Yankees played great baseball, but the Media was dying for the Yankees to get back in it and the way they were describing this epic comeback would make you think the Redsox were twenty games under .500 after the break.
