On this we can agree. Everybody blames the last generation. But the Gen-Xers and the Millennials are guilty of the same offenses, just not with the same optimism of the boomers, who expected the expanding economy of the 60's to last forever.
You can barely hold Gen Xers accountablt because they are only starting to effect any kind of power, Millennials haven't done anything yet so they cannot be guilty at all.
Hey, everybody is accountable for themselves. The Boomers are retiring. Some are living large, some are living on the edge. In their times the The X and The M will do likewise.
No I didn't. That is why I called it a fee but you can call it a tax if you want. I really don't care what you call it. This will would be something EVERYBODY pays to pay down the debt ONLY. Large companies do this all time in insurance settings to pay down claims (self funded). If you cut 50% of the spending you can cut 50% of the taxes. It might not correlate like that but you get the idea. I'd be more than happy to pay half of what I pay now and get a fee of $10 to pay down the debt. But the GOVT has to learn how to stop spending as a result and cut back on crap like the Dept of Education and Energy and Military Spending..
It's an idea, but not a good one. 300 million paying 10 bucks doesnt do much on a 10 trillion dollar debt. It would take 300 or more years to pay off the debt at that rate.
It takes tax surpluses to do this, we haven't had any since Clinton. First, there is not 50% available to be cut without cutting Medicare, Social Security, and Defense. Secondly, I agree that first you cut spending, then you cut the taxes that support that spending. But the GOP does it backwards, cutting the income before cutting the expenditure, which in fact, they never cut. They borrow instead. Republicans cry and moan about deficits when a democrat is in office, but fail to see that their tax cuts which are not paid for and have not had spending cuts attached to them end up being a $4 Trillion deficit. :insane: You're crazy. The two things that America is greatest at above all other countries--Military Power and Technology--is based on government spending in Education and Defense.
Untrue. Rex wants to tax everyone, Obama wants to tax the multi-millionaires and the corporate leeches.
Absolutely. Regean cut taxes (and RAISED capital gains taxes significantly) and deficits soared. Democrats controlled congress, Republicans blamed democratic congress for not controlling spending. Bush did the same thing, except republicans couldn't blame dems, they controlled the whole goverment for 6 of Bush's 8 years. The supply siders point to the fact that tax revenues went up after Ragean cut taxes as proof that tax cuts actually raise revenue. But tax revenue would have went up anyway, because the country was coming out of a recession. To balance the budget, severe cuts will have to be made to defense, social security, and medicare. Painful cuts, and I don't think either party has the guts to do it. INCLUDING TEA PARTIERS. Their policies could plunge the country into a even larger recession.
