"A football team should win that game. A football team should manage that game. You've got to play smarter. I told the team that's the last time. That ain't happening again".

Quote from Les Miles in the newspaper today.

Well Les can be pissed, but he has no one to blame but himself. He decided his buddies Mallory and Peveto were good enough to take over the reigns of this defense and LSU would just keep chugging along.

He's sleeping in his own bed that he made.

Now will he just polish the headboard or change out the entire bed?

I'm not sure he promoted them becuase they were friends. He took a long time to make the decision, and perhaps he felt he should promote from within. It's done pretty commonly in businesses of all sorts.

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Clearly, this didn't work, and I choose to believe that Coach Miles hated this season worse than any of the fans. He wants to win, and he knows where the breakdowns occurred. He'll make changes.

I was a little concerned that Miles seemed to be laying all the blame on the players. Hope I am wrong.

I said at the beginning Peveto was a bad choice simply because he did a terrible job as a special teams coach. I did not see the sense of promoting him. If any coach is fired it should be him.

I agree that special teams were not very special under Peveto. The defense has been even worse with him in "co-charge."

And he coaches the LBs now. And that LB crew has been more than embarrassing this season.

A far departure from last year when that crew kept us together, with a different LB coach.

What a disaster to promote him.

The saddest part is that this was suppose to be a continuation of the Pelini defense, so all the one starting this year were already familiar with the scheme.

Stacey, you are right. I've made that same mistake before on a couple of occaisions. But you learn. The rest of that management philosophy is: The first mistake is making a bad hire, the bigger mistake is not doing something about it.

It's good to know he finally came to that conclusion after the 12th game of the season.
