He interviewed for the HC opening at Southern Miss, but didn't get it. He was a candidate for Arkansas's HC position, too. Who isn't?! I wonder if Will would consider a move to be LSU's DC again simply lateral or backward in his career. Trouble is, if he came LSU would have him for only a year or two. He will be a head coach somewhere soon. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3146421 :helmet:
I'm reasonably certain that CWM didn't interview with So Miss. They sent an inquiry, but he withdrew his name on the same day that he interviewed with Radakovic for the GT job. I think CWM knows he's got a good thing going at Auburn. He's finally developed some experience with his players, he's got good defensive talent coming back, and he just got a raise, so he's negotiating from a solid position, IMO. I'd be surprised to see him make a lateral move, especially within the conference, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him offered a good mid-major-type of HC position at an up-and-coming program. Sort of the way Malzahn did at Arkansas. The Arkansas thing has been interesting to watch. It appears that the Hogs opening is being used as leverage by other incumbent coaches to obtain concessions, much the way that Bama was used following Shula's release. (Terry Bowden has publicly indicated interest, but I'm not certain if they are seriously considering him. ) But it's going to be interesting to watch. I thought Arky's administration got caught flat-footed by Nutt's immediate acceptance of the OM job.
It serves a lot of those Hog fans right! They were terrible to Nutt. Filing Freedom of Information Act requests for Nutt's cell phone records?! Parents of players having sit-downs with the AD to complain about their kids' playing time?! Airplanes with anti-Nutt signs flying over the stadium during games?! Nutt may not be Knut Rockne, but he brought in and coached the most exciting football player that program has seen in ages. And he won two SEC-West Championships. For his troubles, they made his life miserable. I'm pretty sure all of Arkansas's new coaching prospects place a call to Oxford and ask Nutt to give them the gory details of his life in Fayetteville. And I'll bet he makes a convincing case for why they shouldn't sign on the dotted line. Vengeance, as they say, is a dish best served cold.
WM is getting a nice raise for his work this year. He will be a good HC somewhere, someday. I think he would be foolish to jump now into a weak program and see his stock go down when he didn't win like fans would expect. If he stays at Auburn a few years he very get a guarantee to be our next HC like Fisher just did at FSU. Whatever he does I wish him the best.
Coaches have been doing that forever. Mack Brown got raises when LSU was looking for a coach after Archer and Hallman.
I don't see Muschamp taking a lateral to LSU. If the Ga. Tech guy is out of a job, that would make a lot of sense. Miles may consider someone on the staff, who knows. I would think there would be plenty of interest. We'll be a lot younger next year, but the cupboard is not bare.
If he chooses someone from the current staff, I hope he's real carefull. Generally it's always good to bring in fresh blood from outside and let your current staff move up by moving on. Besides Tepper, one of Dinardo's big mistakes was not going out and getting an established OC when Morris Watts left. He promoted his TE's coach, (I think) to OC and QB coach, and then both the offense and defense flopped. But you're absoulutely right, the cupboard is far from bare, the Tigers are continue to make noise in the SECW
Not just McFadden either. He brought in quite a bit of NFL-caliber talent. Of course he's not without blame in the "making his life miserable" department, including but not limited to his 600 text messages per hour to the secretary. :hihi:
