Screw him, LSU needs to act RIGHT NOW!!!!! Frank Wilson is the 1 guy on this staff we absolutely CANNOT afford to lose.
I find that funny. I won’t say that Saban isn’t a great coach, and I won’t say that those who coach under him don’t learn a lot about how to be a great coach. That said, to give Saban the sole credit for that tree alone is a joke. That tree is part of the LSU tree. Our program is the catalyst to creating great coaches. Just as many coaches that coached under Saban at LSU have made names for themselves as have under Miles. In fact Fisher, although had a name under Saban, became an even hotter commodity under Miles. Yes, Dooley, Mushcamp, and Fisher all coached under Saban, but Pelini and Fischer coached under Miles. Pelini and Fisher already proving to be a success. Fisher, although coached under Saban for longer, it could be said that both, Saban and Miles, played a part in developing him. Add Peveto, Northwestern State, to Miles tree as well, not that he is anything Miles might want to claim. Current HC’s in college football that are already proving to be somewhat successful coming from the Saban tree, 2- Fisher and Dooley Current HC’s in college football that are already proving to be somewhat successful coming from the Miles tree 3-Pelini, Fisher, and Peveto. Current HC’s in college football that are already proving to be successful coming from LSU tree Saban, Fisher, Pelini, Miles, Peveto, and Dooley. The point is Saban is not the sole credit for the success of coaches that have worked under him. To me articles like that are more of a reflection of the Saban worshiping by some more than anything. Miles’ tree is every bit as impressive, as Saban’s, but the fact is LSU should get the credit for all of these coaches. Add to that, I will make a prediction that over the next 5 yrs, 6 of the top 25 will be occupied by these 6 coaches and their programs. Currently 4 already are – LSU, Bama, Neb, and FSU. LSU’s coaching tree will be the dominant force in college football. That is where the credit should be.
The only way that I can describe this hire is "dumbfounding". It seems to be a Lane Kiffen situation, where the AD is gambling on the guy's potential and pedigree. Sure, Will has a lot of experience in the SEC, but only as an assistant. The pressure cooker is infinitely more intense as an HC. The duties and responsibilities are vastly different, and I don't know what they've seen that makes them feel like he's adept at those things. That brings me to another point. People point to Muschamp's intensity and animation on the sideline as some sort of indicator of his coaching abilities. While that may work great for him as a coordinator, he's going to have to cool down a lot as an HC. You can't flail around and chest bump your players like that when the defense comes off the field because you have to get ready for what's about to happen next. Intensity will only get you so far. It just seems like UF was in too much of a hurry to name an HC in the interest of stabilizing the program rather than waiting a couple of more weeks until after bowl season. In all honestly, Muschamp's defenses may have been adequate at Auburn and UT, but certainly not spectacular. Just seems awfully risky to entrust your top-10 program to a guy with zero HC experience. That's not to say that he won't be successful, but it's certainly a tough hill to climb. The problem is, if he doesn't fare so well, Florida must once again find an up-and-coming whiz kid to thrust the program back into relevance like they did with Meyer. But, hey, what do I care? I look forward to bitch-slapping the Gators for the foreseeable future. We owe them a few.
Riddle me this..... When was the last time The Florida Gators went out and hired a defensive guy with no head coaching experience????? You guessed it, The Zooker!!!!
Man Ryen Russilo is sucking Muschamp's carrot right now. Thinks he is going to come in and immediately out recruit everyone in the SEC. What the hell???
I have a Gator alum friend who was really confident after Urban retired, thinking that UF would just have their pick of the college football litter, that all they had to do was snap their fingers and Petersen or Harbaugh or Gruden would just come running to beat down their door for an interview. I warned her of the danger of fan expectations, of what we went through after Saban left, and reminded her of the numerous programs with just as much $$$$$, just as much history and tradition, and just as much in the way of facilities and infrastructure as Florida. And I reminded her that none of that guaranteed programs like Nebraska, Michigan or ND that they'd get top-quality coaches, that sometimes it comes down to your 3rd, 4th or 5th choice. She essentially blew off what I said. I'll probably talk to her tonight. I can't wait to hear this reaction. :hihi:
