nope. why would they? That's like breaking up with girl and asking her to keep herself open in case you want to get back together a year or two down the road.

In regards to Muschamp taking the UF job, I don't think anything. However it does open up the question that just who would LSU have to choose from should we need a HC. So many believe that LSU would have the top of the tree to pic from, but is that really the case. UF is every bit, if not more so in some's minds, one of the top destinations for any coach to want to be. Well if UF can only get someone at Mushcamps level, just who do we have to choose from?

Not that Muschamp is a terrible coach or anything, just that one would think they would go after a proven HC like most LSU fans believe the Tigers would. Choosing a coordinator, as opposed to a proven HC, could be a potential set back for the Gators. Would that be the best LSU could do, as well. Even though UF states the WM was their first choice, I don't think very many believe this to be the case.

Programs like Vandy are who you expect to go after coordinators, because top level coaches probably aren't going to coach there. Programs like UF, Bama, LSU, UGA, etc you would expect to go after top level HC's to fill a HC position. What if those coaches just aren't available? What if we have to do the same as UF? Just what asst coord would we possibly choose from? WM is one of the best that was available and now he isn't. I know asst coor make very good HC, look at Bo and Jimbo, but at the time Neb and FSU were in need of a HC neither program was at the top of the food chain, and having to choose from an asst coor could have been the best they could choose from.

I'm just not sold on Muschamp. The power in the East is about to shift back to Georgia in my opinion. The winner in all of this is Mark Richt. I think Georgia fans should be thankful that they didn't run him out of town.

Now I'm not saying that Muschamp will never be a good head coach, or that he cannot do it, but he hasn't yet, and until he proves he can, the jury is out on him.

My question is who is going to be on his staff??

He might want to look to the entire UT staff that all just left. I mean he has a working relationship with all of them, and with the exception of last year they did a pretty good job at UT. Some of who have worked together for 5+ yrs.

Lets say that happens, and he hires Greg Davis as his OC. The team he has in place right now is built for the spread. Greg Davis (who got his start at Barbe H.S. by the way) isn't really a spread guy. There is going to be growing pains. Going to be interesting.

Probabaly a good choice on Florida's part. Of course you never know how an assistant will work out as head coach until he's been at it a year or two, but certainly the potential is there.

Very true, but Muschamp is going to have growing pains regardless. Not being a HC already he will have a quantum leap from DC to HC of UF.

Timing is everything. LSU has all that the top programs offer . . . top conference, top pay, great facilities, great recruiting base, great stadium, great fanbase, long football tradition, and better than average recent success.

LSU can attract the top talent, no doubt about it. We hired our last two coaches as head coaches from schools in BCS conferences with winning programs and both with NFL assistant experience. Both quickly won National Championships here. No doubt, a head coaching vacancy at LSU will get attention from every coaching candidate on the market and many that are not.

But timing is everything. Most coaching changes happen in the first 2 weeks after the season. And when Nick left in January of 2005, there was a lot of interest. Petrino interviewed for it along with many informal contacts. Les Miles turned out to be the best coach available. But if Nick had left in November . . . Both Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier were available and no doubt both would have been interested in LSU. If LSU had had an opening in 2007, Nick would likely be coaching here instead of Bama.

    Timing is everything.
