Everyone should remember this about our "two QB system" : it was done out of necessity vs design. JJ was bad to start the season and played better when getting a breather. Lee came in for a few games and looked like good relief. Neither is a starter. We played 2 QB's because it gave us the only chance to win. If you look at our successful play at QB this season it came in two spots: 1) when we ran a hurry up style offense and 2) when we actually threw the ball downfield. The short, timing slip screens were horrible and in effective due to the inaccuracy of our QB's. We have some magnificint talent at WR and TE and when we got them down field, in open space, for mid to long range routes, our passing game improved greatly. I am of the belief that IF we have a QB that can get them the ball, which I believe Mettenberger to be, than our passing game will be stellar. Arkansas is a great example of having both a successfeul passing game and an above average running game. IF Crowton stays (and I believe he will be let go), he will take advantage of what we have to offer at both RB and WR/TE positions. We are loaded at both positions, so much so that Hill de committed yesterday due to a backlog at the RB position. I don't see Crowton or Miles being stubborn or stupid enough to not take advantage of what we have in Mettenberger. IF he is as good as advertised, the Tigers will be A LOT of fun to watch the next two seasons.
I understand and agree with some of what you are saying, but when the measuring stick goes thru the same or close to the same 7 ranked teams, or lets say even less ranked teams, and has a 7-5 record, as opposed to our 10-2 record, then who is the better coach? UF, has Urban, who is considered one of the best in college football. They play a very similar schedule to us, have the very same level talent, and play much of the same teams, yet they go 7-5 and we go 10-2. So, who has the better coach. We play against some of the best teams in the country of which we went 6-2 and only 1 team in our conference did better. We played and beat both of, who are considered to be the best coaches in the country, Saban and Meyer, yet Miles is the fool. Both of them have the same level talent we have, yet we beat them, and we beat them without a QB. So who is the better coach. By your own admission you don't pay as much attention to the other programs, if not, then who are you measuring Miles against? How do you know they don't make boneheaded mistakes too? Obviously they do, I mean Saban just blew a 24 pt lead and got spanked in the 2nd half of a game. Miles hasn't ever done anything that bad, close, but not that bad. I mean Saban would be the ultimate of measuring sticks and he blew a f'n 24 pt lead, really. So, just who do we measure Miles against when all the other top tier coaches appear to have the very same issues?
If Jeff Gordon came out to a race in a mini van, and finished 10th would he be a moron? Because that's basically what Miles did this past season with a pathetic offense.
I can take a step further even for you. Mack Brown has been at UT for 13 yrs and only has 1 MNC, Saban was at LSU for 5 yrs and only had 1 MNC and he has been at Bama for 4 yrs and only has 1 MNC, Meyer has been at UF for 6 yrs and has 2 MNC’s, I could go on but my point is that Miles is right there with all the top dogs, so just who are you comparing him to that he comes out looking like a fool as opposed to a great coach like all of these others? All of these programs have about the same talent, yet over the past 6 yrs they also have about the same records. Regardless of what you see on the field, and I do agree to some point there has to be developed and consistent play, but in the end it is the record that matters. How about this for an explanation, as you said yourself you don’t watch those other teams as closely as you do the Tigers and for the record neither do I, that we are hypercritical of everything that the Tigers and Miles do, because they are ours and we pay such close attention to them. Maybe, just maybe, when we compare them to the rest of the playing field we would see that it isn’t really as bad as we think it is. Does our O suck, you bet, is part of it due to poor QB play, for sure, and does much of the blame go on the shoulders of GC and LM, without a doubt, but they also must be given credit for pulling off a 10-2 season with the obstacles they faced.
There is nothing wrong with wanting that at all. However that is quite different from demanding that happen in every game as a prerequisite for fans supporting the coach of the team they profess to love.
All of THIS. Unfortunately the part about Lee having plenty of chances and not cashing them in is also correct. I really wanted him to succeed, for himself as well as the team. Both of these guys had moments of being good [not great] QBs but were very inconsistant. I doubt if Les has ever promised anyone a starting job while he was the LSU HC.
There is not a coach in the country who doesn't get these same complaints from his fickle fanbase. There are no perfect coaches. None. Nada. If Les is a fool for not being perfect, he's in some fine company.
I begin to see the analytical problem here . . . You are reaching erroneous conclusions based on a sample size of one.
Apples and oranges, as Cam is a Jr on a spread offense and Lee was a Redshirt Fros in a multi set offense.
Just think for a second what may have happened if lee were given the keys after the Florida game? If he were allowed to expand on his success. Maybe we would be in auburn's place. Who knows. We all knew that jj would and will never get us there. I hope he is moved to tight end next year and lee is the backup. I hate the option and I hope I never see jj start another game. With the runningbacks we have we don't need a qb to run the ball. Hope mett starts but crowton needs jj to run the spread option and mett watches and plays a little but with crowton as oc we will see the same shiz as last year
