Oh yeah ... he did better on the option. And I agree, his feet are his only asset, but he is no great running QB. JJ had his bright moments. I'm not even saying that he doesn't have the "physical talent" to be a great QB. What's always seemed to be missing with him resided in the helmet. I think JJ could have benefited greatly from a decent OC. Lee most certainly could have benefited. SO .. I'm not putting this all off on the kids. I sing in concert with the rest of you .... Crowton's got to go. I actually fear for Mettenberger under Crowton. I think Crowton could have even ruined Cam Newton this year if he'd been the AU OC.
I think the most likely scenario with our QBs this year was what we saw. Neither of them are that good. Neither of them are just bad. Both of them are just ok. Put the two of them together, and they're just ok. All of this speculation over what would've happened if this player had played more ignores the most common element...the vast majority of college QBs are not that good. Year in and year out, there are just a few really good QBs in college football. But every school has a starter. Sucks doesn't it? As good of a recruiter Miles has been, he just doesn't seem to pick QB's all that well. Mix that in with some general bad luck (Perriloux, Zach Lee) and you have what we have. Hopefully Mett can change the pattern...and if Crowton stays, hopefully he can be the rare leopard who can change its spots (not literally but figuratively). Go pro Crow. Style that is.
Miles didn't personally recruit Mett to sit on the bench. That being said, he won't just throw him out there either. Not unless he's ready. Two QB system for the foreseeable future. Mett/JJ in 2011. Mett/Bridgewater or Prescott in 2012. :geauxtige
nope my Tiger bro I think you are dead wrong on this one! It will the the Zack show from opening act . See ya at the spring game !
disagree, think it's gonna be a 2 qb system also. Jefferson has been the starter since the last game of the regular season in 08, minus LA Tech in 09. There is no way in hell Miles is going to start a guy with only 1 year of JC experience, over JJ to begin next season. Now it may end up being his job, but I would be shocked if Mettenberger is starting against Oregon.
but I would be shocked if Mettenberger is starting against Oregon. treatment for shock is to lay down and put some cold water on your head!!! get ready for the Zack I can throw the 20 yard down an out show!!
If Jefferson is your guy heading into 2011 why even bother going after Mettenberger? And if you're Mettenberger why would you commit to a coach that plans to sit you on the bench for half a season or more before the ink on your JUCO transcript is even dry? If that's the plan, then we could've brought in Rivers and a couple other freshmen QBs and let them redshirt while Jefferson and Lee finish their careers as starters.
What have you guys seen since Miles got here in 05 that would lead you to believe that Zack Mettenberger will be the starter at the beginning of next season? And by the way, this is an instance where I would absolutely LOVE to be wrong, but I just don't think I am at this point.
