Michigan State beat Wisconsin, Wisconsin beat tOSU and Michigan State doesn't play tOSU. If they all win out, I believe the highest ranked BCS team will go to the Rose.... that could be tOSU if they beat Iowa and Michigan and can pick up some BCS votes. If Oregon wins out and plays in the Championship game, the Rose Bowl HAS to take a non-BCS qualifying team (new rule this year)... so if Boise and TCU continue to stay in the top ten, one of them will be in the Rose Bowl.
I disagree with you guys' assessment. Presuming LSU wins out and holds it's BCS ranking where it is (5th), I think SC beating AU in the SECCG (getting SC the automatic BCS bid) would drop AU lower than LSU in the BCS rankings and LSU would get the at large. I also think that if AU wins the SECCG and LSU wins out that both will get BCS bids. The key isn't what any other school does or doesn't do, but staying ranked 5th in the BCS. The BCS is flawed, but there's no way in hell that a 1 loss SEC team ranked 5th won't get a BCS game. The only possible way would be if there were 2 higher ranked SEC teams and that's not possible this season because no other team is ranked high enough to pass LSU in the BCS rankings no matter if they win out or not.
I agree and I think with CamGate going on we might be sitting pretty if that happens. I don't see the Cocks beating Auburn if he is playing so I think we are in a BCS bowl as long as we win out.
You made it sound like a BCS bowl would have to pick LSU over AU as an at large if LSU were ranked higher. That is not true. IF AU loses, a bowl could still decide to pick them as an at large, even if they are ranked lower in the BCS than LSU. Unlikely, but it is the bowl's option. This protects the bowl, in the case of the higher ranked team not travelling well.
You've gotten a lot of answers, but my answer is this. 2006. UF won the SECCG, went to the BCSNCG, and Arky, whom they beat in the SECCG, did NOT go to the Sugar. LSU did. Without having competed in the SECCG. There's the answer. If USCe loses the SECCG, they will NOT be in any BCS bowl. They're a three loss team. The only shot they have is winning the conference. (See LSU 2001)
That isn't my point. I don't understand why folks overlook this. The fact is, sure, WHEN they get the "shot"...they CAN win. And have. The problem is, they play very weak competition the majority of the time. The problem is, although they are a "good" team, they aren't tested by having to play at LEAST 8 BCS conference programs every year. You bring up the Beavers being ranked #24 at the time they played BSU. Not the point. They are nowhere NEAR the top 25 now. They were overrated. So was VT...although that is a quality win for BSU. So, they have beaten ONE truly quality opponent, in a year where that opponent is far below their normal standard. - BSU can compete in a major conference...I'm sure of it. But the problem is, they don't. If they want respect, they need to start scheduling ALL their non-conference games against real teams/BCS teams. That way, they'll at least play HALF the schedule LSU and other SEC teams do.
The Orange Bowl will match the ACC/Big East in the Crap Fest Bowl. So LSU wont at all be in the running there. LSU will probably be in the Sugar if we can beat Ark. While flipping on the OSU/PSU game they showed a graphic of the projected bowls as of that present time. They had LSU/OSU in the Sugar.
I have now learned this is not entirely true. My bad. By rule this year, if Oregon makes it to the championship game (or a Big Ten team, which won't happen) then the Rose Bowl has to take the highest ranked conference champion from the non-qualifying conferences, as long as that conference champion is ranked in the top 12 of the BCS. However, the BCS selection procedures designates that only one non-BCS league team can become an automatic qualifier. If two non-BCS qualifying teams are ranked in the top 12, the lower ranked of the two may be considered for at-large berths, but is not automatically selected. Therefore, if Auburn and Oregon play for the championship, the higher ranked of TCU and Boise State will get an automatic berth in the Rose Bowl. If, say, TCU goes to the BCS championship game, then the Rose Bowl is not required to take Boise State. The selection process this year is Rose, Sugar, Orange, then Fiesta. If LSU wins out and either Boise or TCU make the championship game to play Oregon, the Rose could select LSU as their first choice at-large pick... my guess, though, is the Rose would go with an 11-1 Stanford, should they win out.
Look, we just need to worry about Ole Miss and Arkansas. If we take care of business we will be in a nice BCS bowl game, and at least we will know, as we did from a year ago, that we didn't have to cheat to win the SEC. We didn't have to pay our players, we didn't have to turn Drake Nevis into a headhunter, we don't have thugs posing as coaches roaming the sidelines. We came up short to that team on the field, and should have beaten them. I would almost guarantee a win if we played them again, but we won't get to. Just finish the season Tigers and it will turn out to be a great one, build on it for next season when we WILL WIN THE SEC, the right way.
THIS!!! I'd like to see LSU, FL, Bama, and AR ALL schedule noisy in the same year. Boise had 4 games out of conference this year, VT, Oregon State, Toledo, and Wyoming. Replace those games with LSU, AR, Bama, and FL, .. or sub in Oregon, Ohio State, USC, Texas, OU, Missou, etc. 1) If we are so confident that Boisy sucks, then we and others should have no problem adding them to our regular sched. 2) If Boisy thinks they are deserving to be in the dance, they should have no problem putting some meat in their sched. The last two times noisy played an SEC team [AR], they had their butts handed to them.
