Ok watching them run a few of those plays got me thinking....... Could this be the future of LSU football???? Think about this. Sheppard is coming in January and has said in an interview that he wants to play his first year EVEN IF its not at QB. Now from the vids I have seen this kid is the real deal. Can you imagine a offense breaking the huddle with Murphy, Sheppard and Jefferson? Not really sure how I would feel about going to this style of offense but it would be fun to watch.
This might come as a shock Crip (me agreeing with you) but, while I don't know if the "wild tiger" will be the future of us, I do think we haven't seen it for the last time, this year or next. Although, I don't think Murphy, Sheppard, Jefferson will be the break down. If we get Randle, I suspect that Randle will be back there with Sheppard as they BOTH can run or pass. the 3rd person back there I think should be Scott, as he can either block for RS / RR or run it himself. CGC seems to like "gimmicky" plays, not saying that's the wrong way to play. But I think with his attitude toward football, I bet on multiple ocassions we'll see Lee as QB in a 4 WR set, with Sheppard in motion from the wideout spot. Think of the possibilities of flea flickers, direct snaps to Shep, hand offs to him, or for him to just turn upfield. Also remember, in a 4 WR set there's still 1 down back (or a TE) so the delayed handoff to Scott could also work quite well in those situations.
One thing's for certain, if the Wild Tiger is the future of LSU, Lee will be a bench warmer. There's no way someone with cement shoes can run that type of offense. Heck, Jefferson hasn't even been allowed to play this season, so we don't even know if he could run it. I like Shepard, but most of his highlight videos consist of long runs. That's good, but I'd love to see him hone his passing skills so he isn't just an Eric Crouch type of QB. I can't wait to see him in Tiger Stadium.
The two teams that have had the most success with it have been the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Miami Dolphins. I can just about promise you their QB's are as white as they look.
I agree that with a roster that includes Shepard and Randle the Tigers will be able to cause all sorts of problems with a Wildcat type scheme, but with the struggles under center why not look at it this year. The coaches are confident/crazy enough to try the formation in OT so why not do it regulalry but put Murphy Scott and Kieland in the backfield and bring Trindon across the formation in motion, or let Trindon take some direct snaps. That would put pressure on any defense. My point is with so much struggle from one position why not try to take advantage of some of the playmakers on this team.
I meant that if the Wild Tiger is the primary formation, Lee won't be involved very much. Besides, when McFadden and Felix Jones were most effective, they were in the Wild Cat, and where was their QB? If it's an every now and again formation, it'll be seen as any gimmicky (maybe not the right word) substitution . And what does being white have to do with anything?
Because his offense (and lack of elite talent at WR at his high school) when Shep is not visiting LSU on weekends, he usually goes to Austin to work with Jeff Blake on his passing and foot work skills. At least thats what he says.
His offensive line must be complete garbage as well. The highlights I've seen of him, there's very little time to throw, and he's constantly trying to run around people in the pocket. So maybe he just doesn't have time.
If they run the "Wild Tiger" option with Sheppard, we're gonna look a lot like Oregan's offense from last year ... Um, minus the chartreus.
