I can still remember my grandfather telling me, my brothers, and my cousins the story of how Bo Rein died. If you don't remember who Bo Rein was: As my grandfather was speaking, I noticed everyone was listening, even the adults who had heard the story already. You could have heard a pin drop. When my grandfather got to the part about Bo Rein's doomed plane passing directly over his house, with his wife and kids sleeping below, I literally got goosebumps. My brothers and cousins' eyes were all as big as saucers. Bo Rein Cessna later settled out of court with his widow for an undisclosed amount. Out of respect, LSU paid for his children's college educations at the universities of their choice. For me, I never heard anything that gripped me like that story ever again. No amount of ghost stories told around the campfire could ever top it. Anyone else got one like that?
Dang I'm getting old. I remember when it happened. My fraternity was having a "come as your favorite celebrity" party and one supremely tacky "brother" came in a wet suit w/ a mask and snorkel. When asked who he was, he replied Bo Rein. He thought it was quite funny but was shamed into leaving and changing. Everyone was really excited about him being LSU's coach. Man, what a tragedy.
<--- Remembers it well. I remember the minute by minute updates of the military reports following the airplane and trying to determine if there was anyone concsious in the cockpit. If there was ever a need for a tractor beam, that was it.
