I can't agree with this. He brought LSU a national championship after a 35-year drought. He has five teams of former LSU players that respect and honor him and he has every right to step on the turf at Tiger Stadium when they have a reunion of that championship season. He'll never get the ovation that Miles will get, but if they can bring back Mike Archer with his former teams, then they can bring back Nick.
I can see it in the scenario you're talking about, coming back for a championship team reunion, just not any type of individual recogniton, I know he was the coach that ushered in the best years of Tiger Football, but I see him and he'll be identified as the bama coach now, let them suck his ass.
Before Saban, top 10 classes weren't normal. Saban changed that, Miles continues it. But I'd say we've always had pretty good talent at LSU, even during the draught. We just weren't a destination before Saban. We always lost the New Orleans kids, the big time athletes before Saban changed that. Anyway, the point is, I think comparing Saban to Miles is comparing apples to oranges. We could have had a roster of all-stars when Saban got here, didn't we win like 3 games the season before? Saban changed the culture and had to climb up the hill. Miles hasn't had to do that. But he's done good staying near the top, which I'm sure has a lot of challenges. So credit to Miles for that.
This I can buy into, and I personally can barely stand to see him succeed at Bama. Going to Bama was logical, but it was cold. He's earned a good deal of the ill will he gets from us. It does seem that Miles has a lot of respect for LSU and the institution of his position and I'm not sure in the same position he would have taken the check from Bama.
I can't believe this thread is still going on....it's a testimony to "Saban envy" !!! I mean, we're poised to win a national championship in baseball, yet this thread is way more active than any baseball threads....and besides threads about individual games, there's no general discussion of the LSU baseball team, its strengths and weaknesses, and the individual players....like there is about the football team.
Rankings prior to end of the season rankings are kind of a beauty pagent/popularity contest. And like I said, apples and oranges.
Baseball...baseball...OH! You're referring to that "filler sport" that happens between football seasons! Yeah, that's pretty cool, I guess.
