Gathers sounds like he would have been a cancer, or at least a big baby, no need for that in our program.

With the lack of success TJ has had so far at LSU he should be kissing every ass he can get his lips on. Gathers is a big miss.

Later in the show he had another caller who had met Trent in a basketball-related setting before, whose sense was that Trent wants no-nonsense kids who are already highly disciplined for his program. Frankly, how many of those are you going to find among the top players in Louisiana?

I heard him and agree somewhat. However, lack of effort was not the issue here.

sounds like the kid flat out lied about ctj. i mean, tj has a coach from the kid's own school contradicting what he says.

that's gotta make you wonder what the kid really didnt get that he wanted. seems to me there is likely more to the story than what we are being told from either side of this.

One basketball recruit is equivalent to four or five football recruits (ratio- wise). You didn't see the word "fire" in my comment. Don't make inferences.

Did Miles inherit a roster that was depleted after his first year? Imagine if Les had played with an entirely freshman and sophomore roster, do you honestly think he could compete that way?

Trent inherited a program that was depleted and had outdated facilities. Brady had not recruited well in the few years prior to his departure and after the first season, Trent basically started over. We didn't get one recruit! This doesn't mean our program does not move forward. We are better this year than we were last year. We will have a winning record and probably get an invite to the NIT. We have built a new practice facility and started the process of rebuilding our infrastructure. Next year we should expect more improvement. Give the guy time to build a winner....we're almost there.

Seems like there's another side to the story, per Dandy Don today:

"In men's basketball news, a couple of days ago I wrote that top Louisiana basketball prospect Ricardo Gathers stated that he did not feel like Coach Trent Johnson put much effort into recruiting him, but there's more to the story. Since Gathers made that statement, there have been several statements to the contrary. Gathers' coach at Riverside High, Timmy Byrd, has said that LSU recruited Gathers very hard, and that Johnson had probably seen Gathers play 200 times over the last four years. However, by the time Gather's de-committed from St. John's in November, Coach Trent Johnson had already turned his attention to the current basketball season and only went to see Gathers play one time, but he did send an assistant coach to see him on several occasions."

Who really knows, on one hand Johnson may deserve some criticism, on the other hand, many of these HS athletes are so coddled and full of themselves, they turn the recruiting process into a circus...
