Gathers on recruitment: LSU wasn’t aggressive enough | Full-Court Press “My main reason for decommitting was to give LSU a shot,” Gathers said Tuesday, a day after committing to Baylor. “I feel like they wasted my time.” “I just felt like coach (Trent) Johnson didn’t put forth a great enough effort to get me,” Gathers said. “He kind of sent most of the assistant coaches on me like Brent Scott. I had to realize I wasn’t going to be playing for Brent Scott; I was going to be playing for coach Johnson. The simple fact I had only seen coach Johnson at one of my games, and that was the Scotlandville game this year. That doesn’t even really count because that was in Baton Rouge.”
Ricardo Gathers would have been a big get for this program and Johnson not visiting him is upsetting.
So, you guys are basing opinion about a head basketball coach on what a high school recruit is saying that has now signed with two different teams. I realize CTJs lack of success on the court the last two years. Create a thread based on substantive, consistent, performance related issues directly on the court, or regarding off the court related matters, that's fine. But, to create a one line thread about why a head basketball coach should be fired based on one high school recruits comments is ridiculous. I am sure Alleva has more commitment than that and looks at the global picture.
I think the post was just an example of "the straw that broke the camel's back". Trent Johnson has proven himself on many occasions to be lazy when it comes to recruiting, and it's showing big time.
yeah, I get that. and, you are right about the intent of the thread, but it is a typical knee-jerk reaction to one high school recruit's comments that are not likely accurate to begin with. I can't speak to CTJs "laziness" since I don't know him, or follow him around and assess his recruiting vigor. He seems a man of integrity, has won in the past, and negative fan support like this thread that makes assumptions and accusations is just not productive, imho.
Let's be honest the only thing that sucks more than the LSU men's basketball team is the Saints in a road playoff game. I used to watch Men's and Women's games all the time but now they are just a waste of time you know most of the time they will be blown out so why waste the time watching it.
If the HC can't be bothered to show maximum commitment to selling a program, blue chip recruits won't be bothered to seriously consider the program. And ultimately fans won't bother to support the program.
LSU's mens basketball team doesn't suck like they did last year. they've only been blown out twice in 22 games, once on the road and once at home to the #1 team who just blew out #8 Florida tonight as well. we are 9-3 at home, including a win over #11 Marquette (who already has 20 wins and is #2 in the Big East). two of our three home losses were to Top 25 teams, including #1 Kentucky. we have a good chance of finishing 12-3 at home. as for the women, they've only been blown out once in 23 games. they are also 9-3 at home, including wins over #6 Kentucky, #14 Georgetown, #24 South Carolina, UCLA (#3 in Pac 12), etc
If you want mediocre to decent basketball, then Trent is your guy. If he can't lure the best talent in Louisiana to come to LSU, then LSU basketball will never be good, much less great. To miss the boat on this kind of talent because you're lazy or incompetent is inexcusable.
