Why Stud and not Billy G as playcaller?

Yeah, but I still want one of those LSU fishing hats I see him with all the time.

How much of that had to do with Ben Wilkerson though? I will say that being a bad O-Line coach doesn't have anything to do with someone's ability to be a good OC.

I like Ben, he has a chance to move up/on to a full time position coach one day. This is a good shot for him. I do know everyone likes what hes doing.

I too think that Studs and Krag will handle the offense. Having the QB see the field before the ball is snapped, foot placement, etc. will do wonders for a QB.

If we can get all of the value out of the talent our QBs have it will minimize the impact of losing him as a coordinator. Maybe Krag will be able to focus on QB position more and make it better. Could be an opportunity for improvement.

One thing I thought about watching the press conference is that Les must be a great guy to work for.

Because Stud has OC experience while BillGon does not.

In a situation like this, where we were blindsided by totally unfortunate news, if LM gave the OC duties to a coach that has no experience as one, with no offseason to get his feet into the demanding and tramendously criticized position and we failed, Billy G would have a never-ending boatload of fans demanding he be replaced and wanted to know, " WHY would Miles trust someone with zero OC experience to handle our offense on short notice?"

This way, should Stud falter, it's, "ok...he went with experience and it just showed the MAC makes offensive stats inflated. Oh well. Time to hire an experienced OC again." and be done with it.

Personally, I think Stud will do a smashing job. He's been here long enough and has knows exactly the type of balanced attacking football Miles likes.

Will it be good enough to land him the job permanately? Only time will tell. But if any of us are hoping to have the type of season we're dreaming/expecting of having, we better all get behind coach Stud and hope he's a smashing success.

I don't have an inside, but I'd venture to guess it has to do with coaching, better recruiting, and experience...in that order. Was Ben even here in '09? The OL seems to have improved progressively since '08. '08 was a debacle...but as fans, we need to let that bad (8-5 bad, not 4-8 bad) season go. That one season doesn't define this program, nor does it define it's coaches. I'm old enough to remember a time when I would have been happy with 6-5...and certainly 8-5. I realize that doesn't mean we should accept mediocrity as a whole, but a 'bad season' every once in a while is not a program killer, and doesn't mean we have a bad coaching staff.

Ben got here last year. Experience definitely played a part in the improvement. Supposedly, Ben was the one putting them through drills and teaching them fundamentals. I don't know if that's true or not, but it did seem like they were penalized less and there was significant improvement without any support from the passing game.

i fully agree with all of this.

plus, this is not the time to rush out and hire a new oc. for a few reasons. one of them being, you need to make any transition as smooth as possible and not have ANYONE trying to learn something new a few weeks before the season. not the players, not a new coach. you go with what you got, reshuffling the cards the best way possible, even if none of the ways seem ideal.

two, with the limit on how many coaches a team can have, can we even go out and get a new oc without losing someone? so who are you gonna lose if it comes to that? right now, we cant afford to lose anyone completely. we are very lucky that krags is staying on as qb coach, the area where he is needed most, and will give or qbs the most stability to set up for an eventual change.

I never understood us having Oline problems like we did with a head coach whose position was on the line.

Since Ben was a Saban product I'm going to point out that pre-Saban, our secondary sucked. I realize Ben had nothign to do with our secondary but THAT was the most immediate improvement that I noticed.

Well, what can we do about it? Nothing. Here's to Coach Stud having the greatest offensive season LSU has ever seen.
