I understand your point however, I think just as many players select LSU as a motivation for winning NC's, getting weekly TV exposure, and coaching that will facilitate a player's transition into the NFL. Likewise there are players who select USC because it was their long time dream. JM was one of those, he's said as much. We also have commits from juniors DJ Shoemate and Matt Kalil because it's where they always wanted to play. And likewise, there are players who select USC because they have the dream of a NC, weekly TV exposure, and coaching that facilitates their transition to the NFL. It's a nice fantasy and probably something fans like all of us think about but in the end, when you have the talent, MOST players make decisions that benefit their own long term goals.
Can't believe you didn't tell him Cush and Rey Rey announced today that they'd return next year....like Dorsey. That probably blew my bet with LVT on the draft- I was thinking at least one of them would declare and be taken in the first two rds. with all the preseason hype. With their injuries, I can't blame them though.
I didn't because I'm torn on why they stayed. Yes, they said it was for the college experience, the opportunity for more coaching by PC and Norton, and for the fun. However, I have to wonder if Cush's injury/missing several games and Rey's less than stellar stats (he overplayed on Dixon several times) may have played a bigger part. Other than that you were right to expect at least one to have gone in the 1st or 2nd round.
dorsey returned because he cracked his shin during the ole myth game. vball is right, these players do what they feel is most beneficial to them in the long-run. ones who will be drafted are getting plenty of information from third parties what will help or hurt their stock and act accordingly. maybe there are a handful of guys where loyalty comes into effect but in today's scholarship limits, coaches are grabbing the guys who they feel are most talented and best fit for their system. And impact players go where they feel they can showcase these skills best. the days when nebraska simply loaded up on loyal, cornfed walkons are over yet have still failed to adjust to the transition.
