It would depend on where OU falls in the computer polls.. Although they would be 2nd in two polls doesn't guarantee they would average 2nd after all three..
This is correct. The number you get from each of the human polls is a percentage of the total possible points you can receive from that poll. A #2 ranked team with 1400 points will have a higher BCS score than a #2 ranked team with 1300 points, all else being equal. It's not as simple as (2 + 2 + 5) / 3.
You have to remember ... the "polls" have point value. The voters could guarantee that Bama's computer ranking could not surpass the human vote simply by increasing the spread of points in the polls. Just look at the Coaches Poll .. .there is a full 100 points that separates Standford from Bama. 70 points separate Okie State and Bama. LSU enjoys a 100 point lead over Stanford. Thus, you have a drop of 100, a drop of 30, then a drop of 70, then 40, then 60, then 40. I don't see any objective measure for the point values given, other than what the pollsters assign them. OU beats Okie state, and the next thing you know, they could be ranked 10 points less than LSU. It's a rather subjective science. Harris has point value as well. The computer polls are quite different, they are objectively set, and can't be manipulated like the human polls. Funny thing .. the computer polls have Okie State #1 .... so there ya have it. CCR computer poll currently has Bama ranked 6, OU is ranked 4. Another site I found says ACR .. assumming all computer rankings .. Bama is 1 OU is 2. 2, 2, 2, > 3, 3, 1 OU is headed to NOLA if they win out. .. period, end of story.
Pretty simple. Coaches poll has 59 voters, Harris has 114. First place is worth 25 points, 25th place is worth 1 point. Total possible points for the coaches poll is 1475 (59*25), the Harris is 2850 (114*25). LSU has 1475 of 1475 possible points in the Coaches poll, so they score 1.0000 (100.00%). LSU has 2848 of 2850 points (Standford has 2 first place votes), so they score .9906 (99.06%).
Thanks Mobilebengal ... That makes it even less likely that the computer would be able to trump the two human polls. If ALL voters gave OU #2 and Bama #3 .... the difference is 173 points. BUT .. here is where I can say that the human polls can be manipulated. If All voters rank OU #2, and only half the voters give a one loss Bama #3, now ou are at a 250 point spread ... and the kicker is, the mood of the polled participants can produce just this. Plus, you['ll have a 1 loss oregon or stanford or Okie state floating around in the mix ... as well as an undefeated Boisy. It could very well be that all the coaches give OU #2, and only 30% give Bama #3, splitting the remaining 70% between stanford, or, boisy, and okie state, and who know who else. Thus Bama could be ranked #3 in the poll, but it'd be a very weak #3 ranking. I just don't see it happening. If LSU wins out, we will be playing either Okie State or OU.
What I can't figure out is what exactly does Bama think will go better the second time around? Will their field goal kickers suddenly be able to kick 50-yarders? Will the LSU defense lie down and let Trent Richardson run them over? Will the LSU defensive line let McCarron throw passes at will with no pressure at all? Will the LSU secondary let those passes be caught by Bama receivers without a fight? Will Saban be a better game day coach? If Bama beat themselves as a lot of people think they did and LSU had little or nothing to do with securing their own victory, can we just point out what really happened to Bama? They choked. With the homefield advantage, with the odds in their favor, with supposedly the superior team, with an MNC on the line, they couldn't pull off a win. If you don't give any credit to LSU for the win, then you have to say that you choked. If you choked when you had so much going for you, what do you think will happen in a MNC rematch in N.O. which would be a de facto home game for LSU, with even more pressure to win since you lost first time?
He missed the obvious. Bama gets to sit at home and rest for a "re-do" when LSU has to play in the SECCG.
