They lost the head-to-head matchup, AT HOME. This cannot be overstated, and would hurt them with the voters. A 9-6 loss for LSU would make a rematch slightly more appealing for voters since it would have been a close road loss. A Bama win in the NCG would be an existential crisis for the BCS when a team goes 1-1 head to head, plays one less game than the other, and comes away with an NC while the other walks away empty-handed.
You beat me to it. If the circumstances play out from here that LSU were to lose and end up outside the top 2, and Bama ended up #2 againt OkieSt or Stanford, then I would agree they deserve to be there. But they do not deserve a rematch after they've already lost to the prospective opponent at home. I'd feel this way even if the potential opponent were not LSU.
Indeed. If Bama and LSU end up with one loss a rematch in the Sugar Bowl is likely. But if LSU finishes undefeated, then it will play an undefeated OSU, Stanford, or Boise in the BCSNC game.
And this is why I say that if it comes down to between a 1 loss Bama and a 1 loss OU, OU will get the nod.
Because offensive football was only sent back to the 1960's on Saturday night. I'm sure if they try again, we get get it all the way back to the T Formation and the 1940's. OK, obviously I'm joking, a little. Quite frankly, I think LSU wins whomever they play, so I'd prefer to see a real QB against our defense. Andrew Luck would lose because LSU is too big and too fast on the lines, but I'd bet my house that they will be able to break the double digits on the scoreboard and it might be a little entertaining before LSU takes over in the second half. I'm glad we won, but that game was brutal from an offensive standpoint. Mediocre to bad QBing all around. There were plays to be made and neither team made any of them.
Alabama getting a rematch with us would make about as much sense as Oklahoma getting a rematch with Texas Tech. Well, how about Oregon getting a rematch? How many times do we have to beat Alabama to win a NC. We beat them in their house in front of 100,000 of their screaming fans. Enough is enough. Assuming we win out, we should play the highest ranked UNDEFEATED team and yes, if it's Boise State, then LSU vs. Boise State. Enough of this magnanimous bullchit and enough of this Alabama-Nick Saban worship. I don't think the human voters will allow it and I don't think they should.
But seriously, how sweet would it be to beat them twice in one year? Just from a selfish standpoint it would be SEC bliss.....especially since so many Bama players are saying how they think they are better and how they should have won.
I agree. From 'bama's point of view, however, they may have a very strong case for a rematch if certain things happen. I do not begrudge them arguing their case, so long as they do it on the up and up. From LSU's pov, of course I don't want to face them again either, but if we have to, we will. I do not see 'bama dominating us like Ole Miss did in the 1959 game you cite. But I don't want to see them again. Right now, they appear to be the only team that can beat us. Been there, done that. Why do it again? Why face an even hungrier team? Don't want it, don't need it, but at least the game is at the Dome! :crystal:
It's actually very simple.. The #1 team should play the #2 team, that's what the system is all about.. It's not going to come down to who deserves or who the nation wants to see. If Stanford and OSU lose then there will almost surely be a rematch.
Then why even have a National Championship game? We done did it, and WON! What if we did have a rematch and Bama won. Which game would count? Bama don't deserve a rematch. I suspect that when all is said and done all this rematch talk will wind up right where it belongs. In the bullchit trash can.
