And there's the problem. If a QB isn't a passing threat, then your only other option at QB is try to turn him into an option QB, and we've all seen where that road leads with JJ. They might as well try to convert him to RB, because that is his only meaningful contribution.
I'm not sure he would get the YPC (disregarding sacks) from any other position. And his option game has really stepped up lately. If he could only throw... guess you can't have it all, huh?
His zone read abilities have improved, his option running will never improve. Even that is questionable, since it doesn't seem so much like good decision-making but improvement as a runner. When you can't pass your zone read options are handoff and run. Both are neutralized with 8-man fronts. It goes back to how a QB needs at the very least the threat of the pass to be effective. If you want to see this dynamic in action watch what Bama does on defense when JJ is in for a series.
The only time JJ scares me when he is in is if we are in a 3rd and longer than 4. Thats when bad things happen. 4 yds or shorter and the play is usually safe, longer and it's an int.
We're on the same page there. I keep yelling for Lee when we're in an obvious passing down. Coaches aren't smart enough for that, I guess.
Hey Duck, look at this thread, we have had an issue at QB for quite some time now, and we have all acknowledged it and then some. But you see, this thread was from the week leading up to the showdown with Alabama last season, and in the Alabama game, Jefferson's box score stats, well in your opinion probably sucked, he came out and made plays that you nobody saw UNLESS they watched the game. Plays that showed us light, plays that gave us hope. We have seen 2 sides of JJ his entire career, so my apologies, I can’t expect you to understand. Vs. Alabama 10 of 13 for 141 yards and 1 touchdown, no INTS
After reading this, which was very insightful, If there is one thing I have learned, I trust CLM, bring on the hate, but I do. When we were calling for their heads, JJ, JL, GC, CLM, all of them, he pulled off an 11-2 year with an impressive bowl win.
