It's far simpler than that. Our starting quarterback can't throw the ball and our throwing quarterback can't start.
The problem isn't JJ AND Lee. It's just JJ. Lee has good numbers but limited PT. It's mind-boggling, I know. The coaches INSIST we play a "running QB", but honestly the bad blatantly outweighs the good! We need a pro-style set with Lee under center and Ridley in the backfield. And as far as Crowton's track record with Quaterbacks...he didn't start playing good defenses until he came here. His offense is a gimmick, and it's catching up with him. The problem is the mix of Crowton and JJ. Fisher (just for example) and Lee w/Ridley would have killed with this defense.
Thats what I mean about a top tier school with these two guys at the helm. If they were as bad as their numbers show, how did they make the team in the first place? Did we actually pass on 109 qb's to end up with this? I find it hard to believe that is the case. It appears with JJ he just wants to run, so move him to specialty player. Lee needs to have more playing time and our line needs to give him time to get his confidence back. Pro style with all the runners we have would IMO be enough with our defense to win games a little easier than we are now.
Play calling is probably the biggest problem. We haven't seen anything close to resembling a vertical passing game with either JJ or Lee. Lee has numbers that look decent on paper but 95% of his passes are short/medium range passes hence the good completion percentage. JJ is our 2nd leading rusher and 2nd most TDs and will continue in that role until someone else can step up and help Ridley in the running game. Minus Lee's performance in the AU game and feel good about his chances of becoming a passing threat given the chance to do so if Crowton allows it in the play calling. Remember JJ's and Lee's playing time has been equal since game 3. WRs also need to step up to help both of the QBs.
If the case is, That JJ & JL both just plain out suck, I just dont understand why you recruit a Russell Shepard & Spencer Ware who were both highly ranked QB's coming out of HS and throw them at the bottom of the depth chart - in positions that are not even QB. I have never seen a program throw away as much talent by not using it correctly and beating a dead horse as LSU has done this season But then again, I dont understand much about anything of whats going on with our program right now.
Correct! Because he would just be sitting right next to Russell Shepard and Spencer Ware on the Bench! Who's to say that RS or SW wouldnt be up at Oregon right now doing just as good if not better??? ALL while 3 years in a row LSU HAS A PROBLEM FINDING A QB???????????????
I feel like I'm kicking a dead horse here...but Ware was not recruited as a QB and Shepard was typically RECRUITED as an ATH. We gave him a shot at QB and HE decided that he wasn't going to cut it at that position. That horse is decomposing in the grave right now...do we have to CONTINUALLY dig it back up just to give it another kick?
