Last year Auburns kicker missed a few kicks, helping hand the game to LSU. Our kicking game didnt lose any games this year, but it wasnt a strong point. A good kicking game is crucial though, especially in the SEC. Thanks, I couldnt remember his last name for some reason!:dis: I was watching the Dolphins the other day and noticed him punting. I was suprised he wasnt picked up late in the draft. He was a great punter. Good to see he is in the NFL though.
I wasn't on this board in 2003 or I might have asked the same question. In addition both were ranked 3 stars by rivals. There was not one who stood out.
Rivals had 32 Kickers ranked 3 Stars. In the years after 2003, Rivals has only been ranking about 4-9 Kickers with 3 Stars. This year, only 7 Kickers have a 3 Star ranking. Josh Jasper is #20 on Rivals & #7 on Scout. Andrew Crutchfiled is #3 on Rivals & not ranked on Scout.
We are graduating two senior kickers. Most teams in most years make the kickers walk-on and earn a scholarship. LSU likes to ask kickers to take a TOPS scholarship. But we need kickers to come right in and play and we need good ones. We could have won the Auburn game if we had a FG kicker who was good from 50 yards.
It was said that one has a stronger leg and will be used for kickoffs and the other one is thought to have better accuracy on the longer FG attempts than Colt David. That's why we signed two. Besides, we can stagger them out as well and redshirt one this year. Now, the good news is that we don't have to worry about this position for some time. Try to recall our last quality kicker? Corbello? Definately Browndyke (sp?). Chris Jackson really only came on as a place kicker for one year, and then he sort of declined a bit. Remember, don't under estimate the importance of a quality kicker. I know Florida has made it to the title game with a horrible kicker, but how many of those "close games" the Gators were in this season could have been put away earlier in the game but wasn't due to poor kicking?
Not that this answers the question asked, and I don’t know much about either kicker, but here is some info: Crutchfield is ranked No. 3 nationally by Rivals, but is not ranked by Scout. Jasper is ranked No. 20 nationally by Rivals and No. 6 by Scout. I found the following info about Jasper in the Memphis Commercial Appeal: Jasper is qualified. In 2004, he was selected Honorable Mention 5-A All-State. In 2005 he won the American General Tennessee Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award and 5A All-State kicker. In 2006 he won the American General Tennessee Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award and 5A All-State kicker. He is a three-year All-Region selection. He is Tennessee’s career leader with 41 field goals (including several over 50 yards). He kicked 114 extra points in his career. I never think it hurts to have a good kicker. I can think of several games over the last 10 or 15 years that were lost because of a missed field goal. Check with Auburn, Fla State and LSU.
Because Ray Finkle really flipped out after the whole "Laces out" situation and decided to dress like a women, kidnap a dolphin, and tuck Mr Winky away So we need some good kickers.
