I wonder how much playbook you need to know? Give him the ball. He knows he needs to cross the goal line. How hard is that, really? I mean, tell him there should be a hole over that-a-way and let him loose. But, then , I ain't making millions to plan this stuff, so maybe I'm talking out of my...nether region. It's just football! Are they over thinking this thing? :geaux:
This is exactly what I'm talking about here. The coaching staff really can't deviate from the script even if they know that they need to. This quote is from Coach Les Miles himself. Asked if one of his post-game comments was intended as a shot at Crowton, the head coach responded: “No. The opportunities to do the things you set out to do in the series were taken away from you by the situation. Would we love to have given them (Scott and Holliday) more carries? You betcha. The number of snaps, situation in the game, it precluded some of those calls.”
Is it that important to follow the "script?" Wouldn't certain situations allow for some improvisation, or thinking outside the box? It seems to me if you're behind in a game and the game plan isn't working, wouldn't it make sense to try something different? I'm having trouble understanding why the script has to be followed to a fault... :geauxtige
