I'll take the over on that 38%. Not saying he'll win, but i don't see this as a land slide either way. Its not like either candidate is loved by their own party. And the independents have their nose in the wind to see who stinks least. It's going to be a campaign about the negatives and Hillary provides plenty of ammo for her competition. Bernie didn't use it, but everyone else will.

Remember, that election happened less than a year after the JFK assassination and Goldwater was as disliked within the party as Trump - well almost. Plus LBJ was riding high from the Civil Rights bill that summer. Far far different scenario than this mud wresting contest we're about to witness.

First, I do not need to cherry pick. The RCP is an average of all polls. The link you cited recites a recent Reuters poll, but here's the problem with their reporting. The Reuters tracking poll on 6-9 showed Clinton ahead by 8. The most recent Reuters poll, the one they are referring to in your article, and taken on 6-16 shows her ahead by 9. So where exactly is this supposed bounce of which you speak? The answer is that it only exists in the heads of people like you who think that Trump was actually effective in any shape, form or fashion in the aftermath of Orlando.

No, I just enjoy bursting your bubble. Your guy is melting down and is refusing the life lines that his own party members have thrown him by repeatedly telling him to tone it down. His refusal to do so is music to my ears. I wouldn't even be so sure that he will be the nominee when it's all said and done. There is more and more talk of a contested convention after the past two weeks.

    Yet here you are.

Though you know, Trump does have a "Mathematical chance" otherwise you wouldn't waste your time here.

    Melt brother, Melt.

    Trump is coming.

I agree that Clinton has plenty of negatives. That said, we know what Clinton's negatives are. Trumps are still unfolding. His fellow Republican candidates, by their own admission, didn't do much opposition research because they underestimated him. The Clinton's will not make that same mistake. The old saying "better the devil you know....." will apply hear. Further, Trump just cannot help himself from stepping in it over and over. I wonder if he really intends to be President some times or if he is just building his brand at the expense of the American people. I would put Trump's ceiling at 45%, which would be a very low number, but in order to do that he will have to tone down his rhetoric considerably to bring back more moderate Republicans.

I'll grant you that it was a different environment. I suppose I was more referencing the comparison of Goldwater to Trump. LBJ was definitely more popular than Clinton is now.
