Why isn't college baseball covered more?

Anyone know why college baseball isn't covered more? Seems like it doesn't get any press until CWS time. I guess because it doesn't generate as much revenue like FB and basketball, but still, ESPN carries the CWS, so you would think they would try to promote the game more to increase viewership.

For the most part, the best players go straight to pro ball right out of high school. The minor leagues is what keeps college ball down.

I follow LSU baseball very closely but, like many of you guys, I'm a little superstitious. The first, and only, game I ever attended at Alex Box years ago was the record loss in a regional, I think the Tigers went down by 20+ runs. I can take a hint, I stay away=they win.

The odd thing is that I have no interest in Major League Baseball. I've never watched a MLB game from start to finish, not even a World Series game, NBA too. Just not my thing.

There is no doubt that the minor leagues have hurt college baseball, but I don't know if that is the reason baseball is not covered better by TV. The networks are more interested pro baseball and basketball, but that does not explain why the satillite stations have not given them their due. Even with the best players going to the minor leagues, there is plenty of excitment in college baseball, and yesterday's LSU-Bama game illustrated.

The ratings are terrible for regular season college baseball, that's why ESPN has been able to get most of the rest of the nation to play on TV for next to nothing the last couple of years. The SEC at least has it's own network contract but they don't bring in a ton of money.

Major league baseball being played everyday of the week dominates the market unlike many of the other sports. College basketball was not all that big until CBS marketed the "Road to the Final Four" so well many years ago.

NBA. That's all the national media cares about. If the NBA season ended in May, like I wish it would, we'd all be a lot better off.

Apparently Lacrosse is higher on the ESPN totem pole.

I understand about lack of ratings in regular season. They aren't great. However, there's no mention of any games on SportsCenter or any other sports highlight shows. That's what I don't get. As someone else mentioned, they were showing highlights of lacrosse and women's softball, but no college baseball. Granted, both of those sports are in the post season, but still. You would think they could find 1-2 minutes to show highlights from the most exciting games in the collegiate conference tournaments.

NCAA baseball is largely a Southern/Western sport. If the Big Ten or Big East had the best teams in the country, we'd see more on TV. Only Michigan (17) and St. John's (18) in the Top 25. Afterall, ESPN headquarters is where? Exactly. Connecticut.

Well maybe, but ESPN isn't the only game in town. Even FoxSports, who broadcasts the game doesn't show scores and highlights.
