Why is the running game so bad this year?

To me over the last few years we were always a lil predictable with our running game no matter who was in there. The les miles run up the middle even if it takes 4 downs to get it done has been his bread but lately without the butter play since he has been here. As mentioned by others this year we have an inexperienced qb that has yet to put fear into defences to get the 8 and 9 out the box. The way overrated or majorly underachieving offensive line. But you also have to look at the full back play, we have had a solid full back each year leading the way into and blowing up holes which I have not seen once this year. You add those 3 things together you will never run on anyone. You could take 11 of us from this forum right now and shut down LSU's running game. How ugly of an image is that?

Not hold back the offense, just not revealing the entire playbook. It's not always because they are trying to hide it. It's often because it takes a while to work everything in. Perhaps we have to establish that off tackle play before we can sell the counter. Perhaps we need to have a more experienced quarterback before trying a risky screen. Perhaps that reverse needs more perfection in practice so that it works perfectly when we bring it. And sometimes they do it for deceptive reasons. Nobody has a clue what kind of passing game Shepard has. Why show it to Georgia and Florida just to pick up 20 yards against ULL?

I definitely think Crowton has more plays than he has implemented this year. Watch and see.

There's only one problem with what you are saying. We haven't looked especially adept at running the "base" plays we are running (whatever that means).

What makes you think we'd look any better running the other plays?

Personally, I think it's a big excuse. Some fans are trying to make themselves feel better by saying this stuff. Our offense isn't executing right now against teams they should dominate. It makes me concerned with what will happen when we play against teams that we don't have an overwhelming talent advantage.

    We're about to find out...

Do ya'll really think that Miles is going to change his MO? Regardless of who has the "hot hand" or who is the best athlete, he doesn't want to hurt any senior's chance at Draft day. So then, Chuck and Keiland will get the majority of the running touches this year period.

Then, on the play calling, CLM will continue to prove his point to no successful end running inside the tackles wasting our precious 1st downs to put us in bad 2nd down and distance. My recommendation is to increase the lineman's spacing (aka Texas Tech) to widen the gaps. This at least gives our lesser talented lineman better angles and spreads the defense. Of course, that would be too obvious for the coaching staff.

Neither one of them even if they do have a great year are first round material anyway. They may both be great in the NFL, but the NFL has shifted from taking running backs in the first round unless a team is in desperation, or there is an Adrian Peterson in the draft. If they are team players, and have good seasons, and have good combines, they will be drafted. At this point i don't think either one of them were too high on anyone's board anyway.

I will also add that the LEs Miles playbook requires the O line to dominate the LOS which they have not done even agaisnt inferior teams. ( I realize they are injury hampered and young too ) but still..... it is what it is.

The trolls are out in force now.

2 years ago, about 6 weeks before Miles won a National Championship, you had written him off.

Having a first year guard and center doesn't help the running game.
