Why is the running game so bad this year?

The running game is so bad because Jefferson has a long way to go as a QB.

I really don't like hearing fans and media celebrate his 233 yard passing performance vs. MSU.

The way the Bulldogs were loading the box every play, JJ should have thrown for double that.

Also, Crowton's playbook has barely changed in 3 years. None of LSU's plays fools anybody anymore.

Miles said at his press luncheon that the Tigers are going to have to "make opponents pay" for loading the box to stop Chuck and Keiland.

We'll see this Saturday if the coaches are ready to give JJ that responsibility. If they are, can JJ handle it? On the road?

The game at UGA sets the course for the rest of LSU's season and, perhaps, Miles's future at LSU.:tigereye:

We're using the Les Miles playbook this year, it appears.

I think you are right. It will be interesting to see if this will be the case the rest of the season or if Miles will take the cuff's off of Crowton.

What cuffs? Georgia is the first contender LSU has played all season, we've beaten the others with out a trace of razzle-dazzle. You know good and well that LSU has counter plays, quick pitches, draws, reverses, halfback passes, and screens that we haven't been seeing. Neither have the SEC defensive coordinators.

If Crowton has been playing it vanilla and has more offense to show, we'll see it against Georgia and Florida.

So even in a close game that was almost lost we did'nt see any of those counter play's, screen's etc.

This is the same lame excuse that everybody had last year before the Florida game.

Here's the deal. There is no way, in an SEC game, that a coach is going to hold back his offense. Just not going to happen. Both the Miss St and Vandy games were competitive deep into the game (especially the Miss St game). An offensive coordinator is not going to risk being vanilla in a league game so as not to give Georgia or Florida any tape.

Georgia and Florida know LSU's offense, anyway. It's the same offense we've been running since Crowton's gotten here. The difference is that our players aren't executing it as well.

    Stop with the lame excuses.

so is it possible that we have just been going with a base offense in the first 4 games, and practicing totally different parts of the playbook, that are going to be broken out against Georgia, or is that just an excuse Tiger fans keep telling themselves.

    Thats what I was thinking.

Part of he frustration is what you hear from the coaches. They aren't completely honest NOR SHOULD THEY BE. Truth is that many on this forum have pointed out multple issues that may be contributing to the problems with the running game. Its not like Miles can come out and honestly state "Well yes, you know player X just hasn't mastered blocking for counters and traps so we can't run them but he's the best we have" Don't you think opposing coaches would love to hear that ? Instead we get "coachspeak" (they all do it) and have to hash it out on our own right here ! Even though I played HS football, many of you have given me a very good football education as we have analyzed issues on this forum over the years. Keep up the good work :thumb:

A comment was made about using Shep like Percy Harvin. All along this year there has been the implication by Miles that they were trying to figure out exactly how they wanted to use him. All they had to do WAY back around spring practice was look at UF film from the past couple of years. Shep seems every bit as talented as Harvin in space plus he has the ability to pass even if it's somewhat limited right now. It doesn't seem like rocket science does it?

That would be interesting to see someone go through each of the offensive plays of each LSU game and classify and break-down every play call we have made and have an intelligent discussion about it. I've seen this happen a lot on NFL team forums. We had 59 offensive plays in the MSU game, 62 vs. ULL, 72 vs. Vandy, and 48 vs. UW.
