Because LSU hung on to Dale Brown about 10 years too long. The NCAA gave LSU basketball the death penalty for unproven minor violations and LSU hung on to John Brady about 5 years too long. Those 3 things would kill Duke, North Carolina or Kentucky too. The question isn't how LSU got here, it's how does someone do the now almost impossible and bring the program back to life. TJ has the potential, but that's one hell of a high hurdle he has to get over. I don't know if anyone without a big name to draw recruits will be able to get the job done. LSU needs a shot of adrenalin that few coaches out there could provide.
tas is a very good college player. nowhere near a great talent. if bo becomes consistent he will be a pretty good ball player. i agree that having too many of these will lead to inconsistency, but its hard to call signing AR a mistake. he was very good and was a lottery pick. the main reasons are losing the Seniors and coaching transition (it was not a good recruiting class).
the early prognostication is that ctj can coach and coach-up. the question is can he recruit. he needs to do just well enough so that he can get the next monroe, davis, bass, wafer, swift, kittles, etc to sign up.
I agree, he may be the best at actual coaching that LSU basketball has ever had. The problem is that the program has been down for so long does he have what it takes to recruit at LSU? That's a tall order for any coach out there. The longer it takes for him to get the program on solid ground the harder it will get for him to recruit. I think his window of opportunity may be very small.
Well, I just turned on the game vs. South Carolina. It was 53-50, USC. I stepped out of the room to get a glass of water, came back, and it was 62-50 USC. Long year...
