Why is Hugh Freeze not mentioned?

I understand Saban tried to add him to his staff a couple of years ago, but the commissioner squashed it. At some point, someone is going to give him a chance and he's going to show everyone he's still an elite coach. Woodward has been very quiet about this search, so I'm hoping he gives Freeze a serious look. The thing that I like about him is he's been in the SEC West and understands the battles that lie ahead and he has also shown he can win against Alabama, which speaks volumes.

Woodward is not looking at Freeze. LSU has to clean up two coaches who allowed sexual problems to stain the school. There will not be a third, so Freeze is out. Woodward is not Aleva and he will not just throw someone in that position, he will find the best available.

I agree it would be a gamble and you're right we don't need any more problems. My hope is that Woodward doesn't hire Jimbo, his buddy, and goes with a proven winner that entire fan base can get behind. I know he appears to have made great hires in women's BB and baseball, but his legacy will be tied to the next football HC. I just hope he doesn't miss!

Who do you think are candidates that might not be on anyone's "list" right now?

Good question, if you list all of the active coaches and a few that are "retired" and go through them objectively there really isn't much to pick from. Remember we have to want them and they have to be willing to endure the grind of the SECw

    It narrows the list quickly

Riley, Aranda and Napier appear to be squeaky clean. Almost can't lose here but Riley has more appeal to me especially recruiting in Texas and nation wide.

A buddy of mine is great friends with a sports radio guy in BR and he was told the job was Jimbo's to turn down. I hope he's wrong because Jimbo is not an elite coach in my eyes. Since 2010, he's had seven seasons where he lost three or more games and most of that was in the ACC when it was down. My first choice is still Freeze - even though I know he's not a candidate - followed by Riley, Petersen, Fleck, Napier, Fickell or Stoops. Not a fan of Aranda or Tucker because they don't have a long track record of success.
