LOL! You don't "practice" sacking the QB. You sack the QB by beating the OLine man-to-man, or send more rushers than they have blockers and hope that your DB's were able to jam their WR's at the line to disrupt slant/timing patterns. You either get to him before he throws the ball or you don't.

What? You think there's a "sack the QB" play that the defense runs or chooses NOT to run?!?!?!

Oh, I guess you don't practice interceptions, fumbles, or throwing. I guess you just go out there and play on hope.:insane:

I agree with fish....and want to add that since they started almost every series inside the ten yard line, most of their passing yards happened before they crossed midfield. So a majority of their passing yards were not consequential.

(Oregon fans on the other hand would have a field day with those stats, trying to point out that LSU was lucky to beat a team 47-21)

We are in the upper half of the SEC in sacks. We are number one in tackles behind the line. We go after the quarterback plenty.

In the last game we were going after a quarterback who is fast and can get rid of the football quickly. Full rush and blitzes were not going to get to him and would leave receivers open. So Chavis went for containment instead of a full pass rush. Prevent anything resembling a running game and covering every receiver. We let them catch the short ones then tackled them immediately.

It was a great defense. It forced them to take long, time-consuming drives. Then our offense kept them off the field for long periods. Those suckers put up over 500 yards of offense and only got 21 points.

LSU doesn't have one style of defense. It has a pro-style defense that can adapt to different offensive threats. You have not seen the end of sacks and blitzing. We won't face another offense like smith and his fine receivers. Other quarterbacks get shaken up by blitzes and scary fast gorillla linemen in their face. Chavis knows who they are and he knows when to change the music.

You've gotten some really good answers in this thread, but you just don't seem to be getting it.

If you're worried about the Bama game, you should be. But not because LSU doesn't sack QBs (they do, and this has been shown to you...although you refuse to see it). You should be concerned because Bama is also a really good team. With that said, LSU will have a TOTALLY different approach against Bama than they did against WVU, because Bama doesn't have a high power quick strike offense. Bama is a run first power team. Interestingly enough, LSU has a propencity to stop the run. Bama (so far) hasn't proven to be a big passing team, so LSU should be able to blitz plenty.

Get this through your head. Is the WV game the first game you've seen this year or something??

you're beating around this issue like you're either a misguided woman trying to fit in by talking sports but can't....or an uninformed 10 year old.

You keep saying the phrase "practice sacking the QB"...You don't get it and it's obviously no one can educate you as you've had PLENTY of responses from multiple people, ALL trying to!

Again! You do NOT "practice sacking the QB". You practice technique to shed blockers, etc. When you're good at doing that, you're able to then be in position to tackle WHOEVER HAS THE BALL IN THE BACKFIELD! Be it a QB or a RB! You work on shedding blocks to put you in position to make a play. And like it's been pointed out to you CLEAR AS DAY: LSU ranks in the upper half of the conference in sacks. Just because we had ONE GAME where we didn't record any, doesn't mean we forgot to call the "sack the QB" play.

Don't try to say I'm the one who's crazy because you're the one using a phrase that is dumb and DOES NOT EVEN EXIST.

I guess to me what makes for frustrating watching is when.....we get no pressure on the QB, which then makes me assume we are dropping back in better coverage, and WVU still completes 38 passes. Look, i'm no X's and O's guy, but even a little pressure is always a good thing. Hell, even if you occassionally knock the QB down after the pass is away. Had they been playing on natural grass, their QB's uniform still would have been nice and clean.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: The calling card of the defense has been its ability to get into the backfield and disrupt the opposing offense. The Tigers had 15 tackles for loss last week, giving them 30 in three games, though just five of those have been sacks. LSU has been holding opponents to fewer than 50 yards rushing per game and less than 2.0 yards per rush, forcing quarterbacks to throw into a talented and deep secondary that has come up with three interceptions and 13 pass breakups. JUST FIVE OF THOSE HAVE BEEN SACKS. I did that in caps for fish head cause I am sure he can't read and understand. 5 sacks out of 4 games. Well damn, this misinformed woman or 10 year old child is really impressed. I didn't ever say they sucked. I am impressed by our defense. I just said they need to sack the qb are in your words, cause I guess we have to be all politically correct ,"rushing the qb or whoever has the ball." In the words of Les Miles, "Have a great day!"

I just spoke to Chief and passed along your suggestion. He said to tell you thanks. He hadn't thought of that and will be sacking the QB more this week.

Oh, and just to prove fishhead is the misinformed woman or 10 year old child, I will help you comprehend this if you need me too. I am sure misinformed woman or 10 year old children can understand it but yet you can't. Players practice catching passes every day. Defensive players practice sacking the opposing quarterback every day. They are paid to sack quarterbacks and catch passes. College sports finances It hurts to be right all the time.
