Why don't we sack the QB

Let's agree to agree that I'm right.

It didn't make sense to blitz vs WV since they consistently kept their RB's in the backfield to block, where it would be easy for them to pick up a blitz. I can recall one play where WV had only on RB back and we did blitz.

But you're judging them on the notion that we've played cupcakes.

We have played three top 25 teams--all away from Tiger Stadium. You're not gonna steam roll those types of teams very often. And we DID plaster 2 of those 3...so you've GOT to keep that in mind. :thumb: Each one of our 3 ranked teams were ranked when we played them for a reason.

    Relax

Except you're not. It happened two or three times against WVU though. It was on occasions that we were strictly defending against that short strike. Pressure on the QB was not gonna get there in time anyway.

We all think the LSU defense is amazing, or to quote Mike Tyson, "Impregnable". It isn't perfect. No defense is. But when a defense is as good as ours is, it's easy to find the two or three times it doesn't work perfectly...because it's so rare. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

Like I said though...to my knowledge, this is the last time we'll face an offense like this, although UF may use the strategy. LSU can handle the remaining styles of offense we'll face from here on out. That isn't to say there won't be any problems. Bama would be tough even if our defense is perfect. Arky and UF are also challenges.

I asked a question because you can't go into a game like Bama and think you know how to sack a qb when you haven't practiced it on other teams. Hence the saying...Practice makes perfect.

LOL! You don't "practice" sacking the QB. You sack the QB by beating the OLine man-to-man, or send more rushers than they have blockers and hope that your DB's were able to jam their WR's at the line to disrupt slant/timing patterns. You either get to him before he throws the ball or you don't.

What? You think there's a "sack the QB" play that the defense runs or chooses NOT to run?!?!?!

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. ;) :thumb:

I agree that we've faced some strong competition. I also understand that we've been facing fairly mobile QBs proficient at the short passing game which requires a different game plan. We've gotten some pressure thus far this season, but the sacks are few and far between.

I am very satisfied with our defense thus far, and we finally have an offense to support our defense, just nit picking. Heck, our own players are interested in improving, which is a great sign to me.

It is hard to be right when everyone else is wrong, especially when you later realize you were wrong. ;)

It's not that we haven't gone after the QB. I think it's more that we are young on the DL and don't know how to rush the passer consistently. I think with time the DL will improve the pass rush. Proper technique is not something you learn over night, it comes with practice and experience. The DL is loaded with talent, they just need to avoid getting the big head and continue learning.
