Why does it seem that everyone is panicking over this Class?

I'm not panicking, but it is a little disconcerting to see that we've landed ZERO 5 stars. I realize that the rating system is subjective and 5 stars does not equal All America, but still, it would be nice to see one; especially when you see that all of the other perennial SEC powers have at least one.

That said, I was please to see that we landed the No. 1 long snapper in the nation. (sarcasm)

Who knew they even offered a scholarship for that?

So if a 5 star punter was available this year, should we have taken him if we could? Or, would that scholly be better spent on a 3 star LB that our staff has evaluated, and fits our needs quite nicely?

Count the 5* players on this team. Two of them don't play the position signed. Shepard moved to WR. Davenport to OT. Don't put too much into the 5*'s.

:geaux: Good point. :thumb: And then look at the 2* & 3* who greatly exceeded expectations. Can anyone say Jacob Hester. :LSU231:

Guys, I've already acknowledged that 5 stars don't always pan out. I'm also aware that 3 and 4 stars can be developed into 5 stars. Yall are reading way too much into my post. I said I am not panicked, but would like to see at least 1 5 star in this class. Wouldn't you?

In Shepard's case, I think the talent is there. Some of the blame has to go to the coaching staff for not developing him and/or utilizing him properly.

And part of the blame would be that he still doesn't reliably catch the ball.

To Shep's defense, most of his high school highlights are of him running the ball from the QB position, already having the ball in his hands. Not to mention the fact that he was a man among boys and so much faster than everyone else.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. When it comes to "catching" the football, you either have it or you don't, it cannot be taught.

Agreed, but I don't think it was his decision to play WR. Not saying he should be an every down QB either, hence the 'trouble' finding ways to get him the ball. He's been effective on the jet sweep, but would like to see what he could do in a Wildcat/Tiger type package and yes, that means throwing the ball too.

Signing day is always funny. How many stars Rivals puts by your name means nothing when you strap the helmet on in August during two-a-days
