Hey, I got an opinion and idea. How about we at least beat the rest of our opponents before we start worrying how we look in the BCS. :rolleye33: LSU was steamrolled against Fla and was close to losing last night. If my eyes are not lying to me, I think the #10 ranked team, Georgia is up next. Coach Miles has a lot more important things to worry about (getting pressure from front four, teaching QB's to settle down, preventing costly penalties) then hanging seven more on a mediocre South Carolina team.
You are correct, the AP is meaningless in the BCS, (unless you make the argument that it has some effect on the other polls). The 3 thirds are: 1. Coach's poll 2. Harris poll (which is a committee of people picked by the BCS) 3. An average of the computer polls (I believe there are 6 and they drop your high and low, but I am not positive) This formula seems to work best because the people in the Harris poll are able to take into consideration a team's full body of work, like their record against ranked opponents, and if the team won their conference. It is because of the Harris poll that LSU got in the BCSCG last year. An unbiased person, IMHO, would have picked LSU over every other 2 loss team because of our undefeated record against 6 of the top 20 BCS teams, and the fact that we won the SEC. I really like the Harris because the SOS computed by the cpu's is really flawed. I believe that when teams play cupcakes, the record of those cupcake teams mean very little. I think you should look at a teams record against the best opponents that team plays, and put more weight on those quality wins. For example, should it really be held against LSU for beating an undefeated North Texas, and Auburn given many more points for beating University of Monroe (if they happen to have a winning season). In my opinion, this is really meaningless, and what the teams do vs the SEC and other major conferences should be of the most importance.
I think the answer was the time left on the clock. Tigers could run the clock down and take the win. CLM did not want a pick 6 or a fumble and give USC the chance to take it to overtime. Ball control was the safe bet.
I think everyone in the stadium was OK with the clock simply running out rather than putting 2 seconds back on after the delay of game penalty. Stuff like that happens all the time, the timekeeper just lets a couple of seconds go off to just end the game.
That's exactly right. Taking a knee was the safest play. Did you really want to risk going to OT because we fumbled and they returned it all the way? No way, any real coach knows the best play is to take a knee no matter how close you are.
If we can look convincing in each of our wins, there's a better chance we can creep up in the polls and by seasons just maybe you'll find yourself in the mix. Personally, I don't think we're good enough to win a NC, but crazier things have happened.
If you watched the expression on Miles face throughout most of the game it was obvious that winning this game was extremely important. That was is the most intense I have seen him since he came to BR. On the last drive he was just interested in keeping the ball out of the Gamecocks hands, leaving nothing to chance, to insure the victory.
Why didn't LSU try harder to score the last TD? Because this is Les Miles and not Urban Meyer or Pete Carrol. Integrety.
i feel like time was the issue. i also feel like it was compounded by the delay of game. i think if there were 10 or 12 seconds left on the clock and no delay of game penalty, allowing us to get 2 more run plays off the line, there would have been a strong try for the 6. but the combination of time left, delay of game, and everyone's desire to get it over with resulted in CLM calling the knee. as others pointed out, considering all things at that moment in the game, the knee was definitely the safest and smartest play to get out of the game without risk of injury, OT, or worse.
